Hi guys yet another few issues!
I've come round to the air filter for my 300 tdi and I'm struggling 1 with how expensive the rubber hoses seem to be anyone had anything cheaper than the 60 quid air filter - turbo pipe  and as the origional had a weird diy snorkel on I'm missing a few more bits. It was plumbed to the left hand side diy snorkel out wing. I'm assuming the origional went to rhs wing side grill?
Also is it worth replacing this filter housing or rust painting and leaving? There was also a flailing pipe which I think is the crankshaft breather.
I'm also wondering how to join the tdci heater air intake in? All getting abit tight

Yeah, that last diagram is what it should look like. That's an exploded diagram though, so it's a lot more compact than in the diagram. Where it's hand written 'crankcase breather', that goes to the cyclone breather (Black plastic cylindrical component on left side cylinder head) in your third picture.

Ah thought so! Didn't want to plumb in without asking cos I've seen some that aren't joined in to the main filter? Guessing they used a mini filter or something. As it was that's been free breathing and a bolt was clamped into the hole.. hope not too much crap has been sucked in.
Is it possible to get the pipework for it in that silicone stuff? I've heard it's better but as far as I can tell it's just for itsntercooler pipes not seen any with T's for that crank breather. I'm thinking about mounting the filter to the bulkhead behind engine. On an original spec does the pipework just go towards the rhs vent and sit behind it? As there's no like pipe clamps to hold it on? Does it need the debris valve thing too? Yet more expense yippee

Where was the bolt clamped in? The breather pipe that comes from the cyclone breather device? If so, nothing would get sucked in there, it might just drip a bit of oil.
Not sure about the main air from filter to turbo in silicone. That would be more expensive anyway! I'm pretty sure you can get the breather pipe in silicone.
The air filter mounts to two brackets that fix to the left side of the engine (looking from the front) The pipework goes to the LHS vent on a 300tdi EDIT -looking from the front.

No the cyclone pipe was the one in pic holding near turbo was just free and wet assuming splurged out abit of oil, the bolt was in the hole for that pipe in the filter to engine pipe. Which I suppose will have at least stopped anything getting in.
I'm not sure! I just thought that at 80 quid that black pipe seemed mighty expensive. Not even looked for the ones other side of the breather that was just missing.
Ah mine was originally a v8 guessing why has the RHS vent and nothing on left
When it reaches the vent is it just like clamped close by it or ins there an adaptor to clamp it onto the grill? Also the pipe that connects into the air cleaner pipe is the top pipe from the cyclone breather? As only loose one and oil in would make sense top but you know peice of mind question haha
Not sure about brackets mine has like two welded tags on the filter casing? Not sure if it's a gen 300tdi filter or the one off the v8. Didn't see anywhere obvious for the filter housing brackets to dob onto

Also will that filter housing be okay? It's abit banged up and rusty but I'm assuming all the seals are in the filter itself not the end cap? Just clean it out and rust paint it?

Are you talking about picture 4. I can't make it out very well.
I think it's just a large jubilee clip that connects the end of the pipe to the vent grille. I can check that for you.

This is the round filter 'box' to the right of the servo. Notice the two metal straps that go around it.

here are thos two straps and the bracket under them that holds them to the engine

Yes pic 4, it's a lil rusty inside but not terminal an the end cap on mine isn't a wrap around its like a flush fit but not amazingly flush. Just asking cos new air cleaning is another 90 squid and I'm fast spending money! Don't want to put this one back on if it's going to damage anything though
The pipe that goes from cyclone to T into the air cleaner - turbo hose is the one from the top of the cyclone yes? Cos mine all bends all over shop from the odd placement of it before just want to check it goes back together right!
Thanks Al be a big help!

Ah that looks like it makes so much more sense than mine. I'm guessing mines the old v8 filter looking at yours I shoulda took a photo of it no tags or clamps like that to fix to. I was thinking of mounting it onto the bulkhead as I have a distinctive lack of anything else to fit it to haha

The large pipe from back of filter to turbo goes around the back of the engine as in space in pic 1
This is not mine, but shows layout of a standard 300Tdi (water expansion tank is not original)

EDIT - the EGR has been removed too
There might be some other mods I haven't spotted

Yes this is similar to what I was thinking to do cept mount mine on bulkhead since I'm missing the actual mount. I found a pic of it quite confident isn't a 300tdi one now haha

Yea I took egr off this one too heard it's another problem waiting to happen haha
So does the crank breather T into that pipe near the filter behind the cylinder head?

Sorry, trying to keep up with the questions lol
Yes, but you don't have that pipe do you?
connects to the metal pipe you can see in this picture

I would check out a scrap yard for the pipe, bracket, and air box. And all the other air intake pipes while you're on.
