While driving uphill today I had the impression the car lost power. Also the autobox started changing constantly from 5th to 4th and back again (rpms going all the time from 1700 to 2400). Also heard a strange noise and when I hit the pedal I saw black smoke coming out of the car. Back home I checked all hoses and the large one on the left (opposite to the L-shaped one at the egr valve) was blown. After 34.53 Gbp and a lot of swearing it's replaced, in the past I read from others they found it a pig to change and I can only agree. I hope it will stay ok for another 10 years now.:D:D:D:D
I cut the old hose in pieces and took a part of it to wrap it around the new one as protection. Picture not too clear (took it as macro) but if not ok will take another one with flash. replaced in the meantime.

So thats the hose without sensor?
Did you manage to fit from above the engine or was the job from below the car?
Thinking of changing all my hoses soon.

Yes, the hose without the sensor. My car is a MY01, one of the first Td4's. And in spite it is a real pig to replace I did manage to do it from above, had to buy a new 6mm key though, and a lot of fiddling, the lower jubilee clip was with just 1/8th (even less) of a tour to release, tried it first with a 6side key but didn't arrive to get grip on it, with the new "multicran" I could get it millimeter by millimeter. The new one (lower jubilee clip) I positioned so that I could tighten it with a flat screwdriver. Didn't drive the car yet but I hope it will be ok. Good luck with the replacement of your hoses. In ten years time (my car is from january 9th 2001) I had to replace once the L-shaped at the EGR-valve and now this other one, hope this one will also last 10 years.:D:D:D

Hi Willo,

Well, probably you read on the Belgium forum that I replaced the hoses for silicone ones.
Only this one I couldn't change yet because of lack of time and the idiotic way they managed to put the lower jubilee clip. I lost a 6mm key into the engine room. Found it again but still have to change this hose.

When i replaced the hose on mine the lower hose clip screw head was positioned against the metalwork preventing the use of a screwdriver so had to use a small open ended spanner. When I refitted the hose i positioned the clip the other way round and used a flexi hose clip driver, comes in handy when you have a garage full of tools (some dating back to the days of BSF and Whitworth)

Yes, that lower jubilee clip is a real pain. I tried it different ways but none worked until I went to buy the new key. I also have bended a small universal driver for bits in 90 degrees hoping to get to it but as that bit was hex I couldn't reach the correct position to get the bit over the screw. Now with the new multicran I could work a millimeter at a time, to install again I put that clip differently so that I could use a long flat screwdriver. (Bending some of the cooling elements of the round coolingelement but as these are only to diffuse the heat no problem. Silkwood, good luck and once you get the drift it only takes half an hour to fix it all.;) Take care.
