Hi folks quick question on chip upgrades

Ive just bought a 2005 110 td5 with the air flow meter wires disconnected it also has a chip express upgrade fitted

Ive read if the car is run with the airflow meter wires disconnected it reverts to a standard default map !

My question is Does this mean my car is actually running on the chip or is it on the default map ?

Also is it worth doing the egr removal modifications?

Should i get a new air flow meter and run the chip aswell ?

Thanks

For the cost, the egr removal is a must.... Mine felt a bit more alive doing that, with a default fuel map.

With respect to the MAF.... When you disconnect it, the ecu uses default values for that sensor's input. It won't revert to a default map. Those are two different things.

I'm just starting to wrap my head around custom tuning a TD5. I believe either your current MAF is not working, or you'll need a different one to compensate for the custom fuel map. If the tuner just unplugged it; I'd say find a new company to do the tuning.

Installing a new fuel map to the ecu requires flashing the memory chip. So it's not possible to go back to the stock map by unplugging something. You would need to reflash the map to the chip.

Early and late td5 engines differ regarding tuning
Up to 02 the ecu needs a a new chip, the guy removes the existing one and solders in a new base, then you can add the chip with the tune you want.
02 onwards require flash tuning like any other modern car.
Mine was an 01 and I used to mess about with different tunes.
Boost controller is a good move as well.
But before you start messing check if the ex manifold has been modded, ie webbing removed as they crack std and crack a lot quicker when tuned
