Hello all...I'm new here (check out my "hello" in the intro's page)
So I've got a TD5 Disco 2 runout model.....had/have got an air con issue and I'm reading conflicting information.

Basically, the air con compressor when pop, so have replaced it. Air con man came to regas and spotted that the condenser fan was seized. He says it's probably unwise to use the air con until I get it replaced as the system will over pressurise. I've also read that the main reason they seize is cos they're never used in the Uk unless we hit 28 degrees and road speed is less than 50mph.

I've taken the fan off an it is indeed a little bit stiff (read proper buggered)

So I have two questions.....
1.....where do I get a new fan without spending £250 ?
2.....can the air con be used while I'm finding a new fan (ie is air con man right or are the 28 degree/50mph guys right)

Many thanks in advance...hope my waffle makes sense
Cheers
Steve

HI, you can use the aircon without it cos it's protected against overpressure by a dual pressure switch, it might not be so effective though cos yes the presure is rising in the system without the fan and the dual pressure switch disables the compressor and untill the pressure drops by itself to a preset limit you'll get only ambient air instead of cooled one

but this fan is there for additional engine cooling in case of extreme load of the engine too so it's not wise to run much without it if it's warm otside and you tow something heavy

you can use one of these, http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/12V-Electric-Radiator-Cooling-Fan-Push-Pull-Universal-/251095663004 iirc the 12" one(measure the faulty one and get the closest)12" or 14" i cant remember exactly...it's not a straight swap but with a bit of handiness you can fit it and it works a treat... use the old fan's plug on it but make sure you connect it's polarity as to push.

Damn fine splendid thank you :)
We're driving to Devon on Monday so new one won't arrive in time, hence the "can I use air con" question, so good news...thanks.

Even better on the fan source...marginally better than the £240 price quoted by Paddocks/Craddocks/mm4x4 etc :). I'll order one tomorrow

Super...thank you...:cheer2:

the nice way to fit the fan is to remove the old holder aand fabricate two support bars and some brackets to fit them exactly as to be able to the fan to them something like in the pics:

Mine has been seized for 4 years and never caused a problem with the air con but saying that I fitted one the other day because as I tow a lot(horse trailer) I wired it into my front fog switch as it isn't used anymore due to winch bumper.
So when it's working hard and end up stuck in traffic or up a steep hill I switch it on to to aid cooling as its been so hot
