Hi all,

I have an 2000 P38 HSE and I am looking to replace my cassette radio with a CD/MP3 player that has a connection for ipod and a USB connection for my portable hard drive.

Has anyone done this or can someone suggest a unit i should consider.

thanks

Was lookin at doing this myself a while ago, have put it on the backburner for now though.

If you have the HK system with the individual door amps the following links might be helpful:

Range Rover P38 Radio Harmon Kardon | Nexxia UK

You'll need a headunit with two pre-outs and a sub out to use this but read the note at the bottom about sound issues.

Aftermarket Head Unit Adaptation for Range Rover 4.0/4.6

Maybe some useful info there for ya.

Seems to be either pretty easy to do or a bit unreliable depending on which system you have.

Edit: forget to mention, tommo138 pointed out if you have the clarion headunit you can send it away to get an ipod interface added pretty cheaply. Less messing about and you get to keep the steering wheel control.

Quick and simple one for price.

Don't laugh I got one from Aldi for £39.99.

CD player, blue tooth, SD card slot, single head phone jack plug and front USB slot. what more do you want?

For £39.99 its a bargain, came with remote control so you can have it as hands free phone connection too.

Also has rear sockets for additional amp too.

Had to get a couple of side inserts for dash, don't go to places like Halfords, he wanted £40.00 for two plastic trims. I told him to f*#k himself and got it off Ebay.

Sounds OK too, up to you how much you want to spend. I wanted one with pop out screen to Play DVD's, but I'm driving so no use to me.

Forgot to say, just pluged straight in with Range Rover plugs, no hassle and worked with ease.

I've got the exact same Aldi unit. Direct plug and play and added a sub with amp in the boot for some extra boom. Great sound :)

i got the alpine ipod only head unit, best one i have ever had, sadly you need an extra bit for bluetooth for the phone but as for being able to flick through your ipod easily, i havent found a better one!

hello;
i have replaced my diversity unit after waiting for 6 months to find a replacement oem unit, and i drove for 6 months listening to the whine of the rear diff, then i got a pioneer unit with a usb, remote control and headpfones jack, very happy with the result so far,had to remove the doors cards to connect directly the amps, win win situation.no more whine and no more diversity crap radio that gets screwed after replacement during a couple of months.
it costed me all and all 150$ i even managed to cover the two empty sides on the unit housing by using the genuin unit cover.

LOL! Just gone thru feedback, but over 90days ago so can't see details

I think i found them on searching "walnut" ??

I went the whole hog and changed the lot, Pioneer with CD, USB AUX for MP3 etc, changed all the door speakers and the tweeters keeping the Harmon Kardon Brackets and covers, added a sub woofer, use the remote most of the time. Did the same, brought 2 Walnut blanks from Custom Cars on Ebay. Fantantisimo

DO the steering wheel controls still work with the new unit? And which original head unit did you have? The Alpine or the Clarion?

I didn't have the steering wheel controls on my Range, it's a SE model.

When its time to get the next car, I will make sure its got the lot.

The remote control is similar to a TV remote but smaller. Press phone ICON and dial number and away you go.

No feedback either, very clear sound for phone. You may look a bit of a whacko talking to yourself though.
