I got fed up off different mechanics telling many different opinions of what was wrong with our discovery. First it was a bearing, then a cv joint then a whole new transfer case. Well, after pricing all of the above - confusion set in and was totally unsure of what was the problem. Two nights ago, the vibration when hitting 50 - 60 kms got WORSE and the clunking between drive and reverse was unbearable to keep listening to, it finally went clunk for the last time. As I pulled over,in the dark, I thought that was it. I would never drive this again.
Arrived the next morning, took a look underneath and the front drive shaft was just hanging there!! Un-did a few bolts, took it off, then put the diff-lock on and away she goes!!!!
The vibration, the clicking and the clunking was the front driver shaft the whole time!! Now she was smoother, quieter and the best she has sounded in a long time!!!

Don't believe everything that you are told by mechanics but do trust those who own or have owned a Discovery before!!!

!!Someone once told us that when you own a landy, you can 99% of the time, unbolt something and keep going. It will never leave you stranded!!!

You see, I live in that little place down the bottom of the world, called New Zealand, and I am afraid that we don't seem to have the expertise in this country to run these more "Higher-standard" 4x4 vehicles. We seem to still be stuck at the basics.
 - Now here is the question -
Do I need to look into to any other areas of the vehicle for any other damage that the front drive shaft may have caused by snapping like it did? Is it pretty straight forward, to bolt the new one on, and away she goes? May advice from this, (Other parts of the world with a little more expertise) may actually help me get this baby back on the road, performing at 200%, better than the help you can get here!!!!!!!!

I'm assuming you mean front prop shaft as opposed to driveshaft, and presumably one of the Universal Joints has collapsed - chances are this will be repairable rather than the whole propshaft need replacing, just done one on mine and the UJ spider kit was £18.00 complete and an hour of my time.

Yes, one of the universal joints have snapped off, but the other universal joint is actually damaged as well, so we are going to replace the whole prop shaft and the two universal joints as if not there could be a balance problem.

Also, we have replaced the rear prop-shaft and rubber doughnut. Surely after this, there shouldn't be to much more connected to it that needs to be looked at is there?

Theres lots connected to the propshafts  but your vibration should be sorted now anyway:)
