Just been to view a defender td5 90, 2001, 80k miles, fsh 3 owners, original car with no mods. Underside is rusty but good, bulkhead is good, footwells all good. This is the first I have viewed and seems good condition for a 21 year old vehicle. Idea of value and comments please.

'rusty but good'!?, first thing I'd do is an MOT history check
Done, rear cross member has small amount of corrosion and been welded. Various bits a pieces like dodgy fog light, battery loose, oil leaks mentioned but not excessive,
Previous owner for 15years was in his 80s and used to use it to get his paper in the mornings, spoke to garage that looked after it.

Sounds like could be a nice original one, value is very difficult due to the prices some are asking at the moment.
I guess it's what you're willing to pay for it at the end of the day - good luck

Well I decided it was worth 13,600 and bought it, first one I looked at but I did do a load of looking at stuff for sale and sold and decided I have 6,400 to spend on it if necessary. It’s going straight to my Indy for a proper once over and get all the necessary work done before it gets a new interior etc.

£13,000? plus 7,000 to spend on it? So 20k in total.

I suspect you could have found a better deal. From the description it’ll have issues I almost guarantee it. Chassis rots from the inside out so it it needs welding now at that ages I would bet a new chassis isn’t far off.

good luck tho, keep us posted. Being handy with the spanners is all part of the fun

From my experience, is never good to buy the first you see. At least, look at others and compare, even if you end up buying that first one

Well they are not going to go down in value.

Not a great price, nor bad, but fairish.

You will be pleased to hear buying the first one you look at worked this time. Car got a clean bill of health apart from washer jets, a few bushes a couple of small leaks and the fwd selector needs freeing up.
PS why so many adverts on this forum?
