Hi all

After years of messing around restoring and driving all sorts of cars from my escort cosworth to my 1949 beetle. I have finally decided Ive had enough.

Im self employed running my own business, and have had my 110 for the last 4 years.

Its a 1998 300 Tdi hi-cap.

Its Ex EDF Energy, so has a strengthened/plated chassis, 007 hiab, winch mounted bumper, twin split charge batteries, strobe beacons, and out riggers, and the 8 spoke heavy duty rims, along with heavy duty springs.

Mechanically the vehicle is sound, and i have chucked the best part of £1000 at it to get it up to a relaible condition underneath.

I am currently selling 2 of my "weekend" cars, and when they are gone i will finally be free from the trappings of owning modified and turbo charged stupidly fast cars.

My initial plans were to sell the hi cap buck and purchase a tipper body, but being a 110 in not sure if it is really a cost effective option.

I feel i'd be better off buying an ifor tipper, if i really decide to do this, as i will also have a greater max load that way.

So now my thoughts turn to tidying up the truck.

having done almost 180k now it is a bit tired. the interior is like a typical builders truck and the paint work is beginning to look tatty.
The springs are knackered and its sits 1" lower on the nearside thanks to misuse of the hiab over the years!!

SO basically Id like to tidy the old girl up

Exterior

Respray ? I am thinking the dark metalic grey

Chequer plate for the wing tops as i constantly stand on them

Repaint the roof/light bar, bumper and rear cross member black

New windscreen as theres about 4 "bullet" holes in it from stones/will be MOT fail

new rear cab glass (half is perspex at the mo,thanks to 1/2ton of concrete)

Mechanically

Fix leak on gbox/transfer box

New Head gasket and Belt

New suspension (im thinking 2" heavy duty lift ???)

Tyres are ok, but the 8 spokes are rusty and look gash.
So was thinking either boost's or some new steels?
would 33" be a bad idea???

Interior

Major sound deading

Either new seats or retrim mine, also raise seat on 1" box section as im 6'5", and can't push seat back cos its a cab truck

Also what do you guys think about installing the '03 spec dash, is it possible?

Id really apreciate your views, and any advise will be apreciated, as although ive had landrovers for years, ive never "modified" one.

Ok im expecting some will say leave it its a landrover, not a tarts waggon,
but im not doing it to have a shiny new truck. I simply want to smarten it up, as its looking dated now, and id like it to look more professional being a work vehicle.
Also id like to update and make the interior more confortable, again not because of vanity, but to make my "mobile Office" more appealing to sit in than a drap plastic coal bunker, and also so my wife wont get such an arse ache if i take her out in it instead of the car.:D

You need to have a good idea of where/what you want to achieve. Also how much you want to spend to achieve what you want to end up with.
Re taking wife , replace seats with later versions, with elec heating.
Full aftermarket soundproofing kit. Aircon .
New springs , and shocks. all new susp bushes. Respray, alloys .
if you really want to push the boat out then new 2.8 TGV engine, and auto gearbox. Vented front discs. and so on . Smoother quieter quicker . JMHO:cool:

it's taken years to get that nice patina, don't spoil it

Well i have a good idea of what i want, just putting a feeler out to see what others think and if anyone else has done similar things to theres

Pretty much agree with everything u say there
except i dont want aircon

My little 300tdi is a sweet little engine, so thats staying put untill it dies. not really after more power speed, im happy with its performance.

Just want to make it more confortable/pleasurable to drive, as i spend a good few hours behind the wheel.

Ps it had vented brakes as standard when it left the factory, part of the "special vehicle mods" along with the white8's.

Money...? well its not like im scriming and saving, i have plenty to to what ever i want to really, especially when i sell my 3rd and 4th cars:eek: .
But at the same time o dont just want to spend for the sake of it. I mean christ i could go and buy a new 2008 defender tommrow if i wanted to, but its not about that.

I knew some one would say that :lalala:

I agree, my landy is lovley as it is compared to some things i seen, but at the same time it is getting tired and i am running a business and want to maintain a professional immage.

Im not after as tart waggon as i said in my first post, if that was the case id go buy a new 2008 defender, or one of them lesser jap crap machines with all the chrome.

I love my landy more than any other car ive owned (and ive had some nice ones)!! But it is getting to a stage where im embarrased to turn up to new customers houses, i look such a pikiey! ANd also as i said at the start ive given up on nice cars and the likes, so now i want to turn my efforts to making my 110 comfortable to be in and look smarter and therefore even better than it is now.

I'll take some better pictures of it tommrow so you can see its overall condition.

Thing is, when you turn up in a tatty old Land Rover it looks good as far as the customer is concerned. If you had a new shiney one your customer will always think " he must be charging too much if he can afford one of those"
Stick with what youve got, change the interior, yes, but leave the outside as it is. But thats only my opinion!

yeh you have a point there.

Now ive got over the excitment or a new project, im begining to this i will just tidy up the up side.

then just sort the wheels, and concentrate on the interior and making it as quiet as possible

A 130 or even better a 150 double cab tipper, would be my dream. I even toyed with the idea of putting a new chassis on mine to achieve this, but thats so backwards as my landy doesnt have an ounce of rust on her!

And the time/effort involved is probably not worth it, or is it.

A 130/150 tipper is gna be £10k ish

mine landys worth about £3k if i smarten it up a little

A new 130 chassis prob £1600-1700?

A tipper unit ive been quoted about £1500 if i buy it as a self fit item.

Its very tempting!!!!!
