I have a 110 2.5 diesel turbo (not TDI), fairly tidy and runs steady. What should the MPG reach as at present I can only manage 20mpg! No I'm not too heavy footed, also when driving I can hear the turbo working up to half way on the throttle then the last half of peddle movement does nothing.
Any suggestions as to the obvious or more technical I should be looking for?
For example when I've got my head in the engine bay and blipping the throttle (no load) the waste gate does not appear to move at all! Could it be stuck half open? would this cause the apparant lack of throttle response?

Any discussion/education/laughter welcome

Hi there and just a quick one.
Your waste gate will not open unless under load!.
Try getting someone to sit in your beast, applying the footbrake and letting the clutch out at the same time.
A three footed job i know, accelerator brake and clutch at the same time, but if you have driven enough old petrol cars it becomes second nature hehe.. Under load you should hear the turbo slightly and see the waste gate move AFAIk..... if not please somebody prove me wrong:D

accywingy,

Thanx I take it here endeth lesson one??
Ye ole waste gate moveth!

By the way I am now attatching rear x member with extensions.... oh what joy!

Next springs and dampers, thankfully somebody else has polybushed it.

Good luck with the springs and dampers have just fitted 2" lift to my 110, and in the process discovered why everything was bouncing in the back, the dampers could be pushed home by hand and just stayed there.

The fronts were a nightmare to do I would advise liberal use of GT80 or WD40 at least 2 days before attempting it, I eventually had to go and borrow spring compressors. The rears by comparison were a breeze removed both sides at once thus allowing the whole rear axle to be lowered down onto blocks, 2 springs and dampers changed in 3 hours, a comparitive breeze.

I presume you have changed fuel & Air filters. I have a 200 tdi, 110 and I am getting 28 to 30 MPG. Seems a bit better since I changed the cam belt. I also have a large roof rack which some people say will not help my MPG. I'm also running on 235 x 85 x16 AT2's. Sounds to me if your only getting 20 MPG something is definitely not set up right.
