Happy New Year Everyone!

My alternator belt snapped the other day. Just had a look under the bonnet and doesn't seem to be much room to work on it. Anybody got any advice on most straightforward way to do this??

I tried to remove the fan cowling to get a clear run at it but once unbolted I cannot completely remove it. Do I need to remove the actual viscous unit? If so how??

Thanks in advance.

You should be able to just slide the new belt over the top and put it in location, undo the bolts on the alt to loosen it and slide it towards the engine. Belt over the top - then lever the alt back out to tension the belt, the belt should be tight, but not so tight as so stop you being able twist the belt side ways.

I did mine when I was changing my cambelt. Would be easiest to remove viscous unit. I think they are supposed to be removed with a special offset spanner but managed to get to mine with a 10 inch shifter. I think it might be a left hand thread. Then remove cowling. Other belt will be the power steering belt. Slacken bolts off on pump unit until belt slackens and remove. Fit your new alternator belt and reverse all of above. Easy-Peasy:D :D
