advice please . series 3 wont drive in 2wd

braked sharply and there was a loud metallic clunk then when it was put it gear engine still running but it wouldnt move . got it to run by putting it into 4 wheel drive , will go into gear positions but no power in 2 wheel drive . any thoughts ???

Half shaft?
Lift one wheel on each axle and see if prop turns.

how many times can the same thing happen to so many people but everybody still askes the same question

'cos it's easier to ask than to search for the answer! Anyway, it gives us all an excuse to look clever or have a good moan. My money's on a busted half shaft, not too bad a job unless you have to take the diff out to remove the inner part of the shaft. I ended up doing this twice as no one told me the shafts wear out and should be replaced as pairs if they have a lot of miles on them.
