Advice Please - Range & Freelander

Hi! I am thinking of purchasing an old Land Rover.

I've been looking at 2002/2003 Range Rover 3.0 TD6 HSE's, with around 130-150k on the clock. Can anybody please give me some advice as to whether it is worth buying one, or are there too many reliability issues? How expensive are parts and repairs, etc?

Other than that, I've been looking at Freelander TD4 HSE's, from around 2004-2006.

I would consider a Freelander 2, although I may struggle to find a decent one in my price range.

What are people's thoughts, please? I just want a comfortable car that is capable in all weather and a joy to drive.

Any suggestions of other models I could consider are also welcome.

Welcome neighbour. Hope you can introduce yourself onto the forum section. As for the choice for Freelander 1 models later the better nearer to the change to Freelander 2. Range Rovers can be a heavy pregnant mistress looking over your shoulder while your humping your wife. As long as she well maintained and you have deeeeeeeeeeeeep pockets full of cash then go for the luxury. On another note which end of Manchester, I am in the North Manchester.

I own an old freelander and I'm very happy with it but if I had about £500 a month that I had no use for, I'd get a rangerover. If you are a bit concerned about the ongoing costs, a rangie is not for you.

Thank you both very much for the advice. I suspected that'd be the case with a Range, so I'll stick to looking at a nice Freelander.

posh boys If you have a fellow landy driver with knowledge of Freelanders take him with you. there some bits to be wary of in the drive train mainly the vcu. Make sure everything there and it has a service history as long as your arm. Also make sure make up kit and spare hair rollers are in the rear under the carpet.

That's the main problem with owning a freelander, the rangie owners seem to think freelander drivers have effeminate qualities. If anyone says that to my face, I'll scratch his eyes out.

Both of those scenarios are out of the question with my dodgy knees and knackered back.

A 15 year ole RR ont 100k+ miles will be wanting quite a bit of work on it unless it has been well maintained. They eat suspension bushes to start with. Hence why they're cheap to buy at that age and mileage.

Get yerself a Freelander.
