Advice! Permanent Battery Drain On My 2003 Freelander Td4

Any help here appreciated, this TD4 still under warranty but the dealers (who shall remain nameless for now) could not find the problem & for TWO WEEKS left me with a hire car....
Turns out it was a problem with a drain that only showed itself when in alarm mode... they have now said that they are replacing the alarm controle unit and something else which i can't remember, anyway just a warning to those of you who might get this problem in future.... YOU HAVE TO HOUND THE DEALERS IF THEY SAY THEY CANT FIND THE PROBLEM AND JUST GIVE YOU THE CAR BACK!!! Moan finished!
 
Hi Gusmagoo . . .your lucky its still got that warranty,its the norm for these things to happen just after , however hope you get it sorted and give the feedback on what they replaced,cheers. . . Ming :cool:
 
Ok Freelander Fans, just picked her up, thought i'd update as to the work that has been done, all under warranty (thank God! £500 approx inc parts)
Eventually, the intermittent battery drain revealing itself occasionally in alarm mode was picked up on by the dealers top technition who, after consultation with Land Rover direct, was told to replace the alarm control unit, sender and key fobs (2 of) with a brand new set....
This does initially appear to have solved the problem, but i was kindly reminded of the known problems that most remotely operated alarm systems have with radio inteference, and there are occasions when i will choose to lock the car with the key to avoid "waking" the remote system....(eg at the airport)
Sorry if you don't know what i'm talking about, there are various references to this type of thing on this site so keep searching if you want to know more!
The technition himself explained what had been done and why it had taken so long (2 weeks) to fix, and he was much more helpful than the rest at the dealers....
My last gripe is with the service department itself, and i will be writing to Land Rover about this,
I had the car booked in to a local garage to fit my genuine landy tow bar (8 bolts and an electric plug) as i didn't have time or the facilities to do it myself (live in busy town centre) on the day that it wouldn't start, and so missed my pre christmas slot to have it fitted,(dealers too far away to go to)... EVEN after explaining this to the dealer they refused to fit it for free for me instead quoting me £85 + vat! ("company policy, it's LandRover not us!") even though they new they would probably not be getting the car fixed till the new year!!!!! AND I HAD TAKEN TWO HOURS OF MY OWN TIME DRIVING THE CAR TO THE DEALERS RATHER THAN LETTING THEM TRANSPORT IT!!!!:mad: 8 bolts and a plug!!!! ****ers!!!! Thanks for **** all main dealers.... NET RESULT, WILL BUY MY NEXT VEHICLE ELSEWHERE. APPROXIMATE LOST SALE OF 25K FOR THE SAKE OF AN HOURS LABOUR!!!! Whatever happened to keeping the customer satisfied!!!!!

There must be a reason why, on certain forums, people refer to "official stealers" rathern than 'official dealers' ????:D :D
 
Hey Marcus!!! Rav's are a womans motor, and having driven many a tractor, have yet to find one suitably fast enough, or practical enough, for my purposes!!!:rolleyes:

what you got here is a high production figure coupled with a high demand from dealers. now that could be seen as sales figures but infact its due to the number of freelanders that the dealers have had to replace under warranty, and also because they need to replaceso much on the rest of them, that the supply of spares has ran out , so the dealers have to demand more just so they have a supply of spare ecu's and curling tongs

Your getting very boring now , we have all got the picture, we understand, youve made your point time and time again , now bog off back to ya farmers den wiv your piggy mates, and chat bout them noncy poncy freelander people wiv the curlin tongs [bitch] but the truth is you wanna get out of that closet, scrap that stupid tractor[they are stupid, just have a real look] chuck away those silly camoflage cushions , and here is the best bit, get a proper motor one you can be proud off , or just take a very long trip to your outy back place, oh and please dont come back and bore us any more . . . Ming :cool:
 
well if we did sell our lovley working diffy, and did buy a freewheeler, would would leave you alone, only because we would be stuck by the side of the road for hours at a time and would have no free time left to come on here.
 
ooooo! i think minger is getting upset now. he'll be beeping his horn at us in a minute cos its the only thing that works on his freelander, apart from the curling tongs.. i like that bit about getting a motor we can be proud of thats really good.... but i think he should take his own advice first and get himself a motor he can be proud of, preferably one that works
