Ok dizzy is all but knackered, weights getting all snarled up and arms worn.

2.25 petrol series 3 running a (Lucas) dizzy.

So going to replace it. Was thinking of changing to electronic back along, so now’s the time; there’s a few different makes but which one would you go for. Buying a complete distributer but preferably electronic, will I need a different coil if I change to electronic?

I ordered a new dizzy online a couple years back, and it was a dud a real piece of junk, It did not have the vernier adjustment screw on it either, like the original Lucas did. It worked for about 5 minutes. -lol I tried this place Electronic Ignition, Home of the Powerspark electronic ignition and electronic distributors and wow! Smooth idle, vernier screw on the vacuum looked quality and like the original. Engine timing does not wonder around anymore.

The electronic system acts as a switch for the coil, replacing the mechanical switching (points), so no you don't need to change it.

I had looked at the AccuSprak and the Powerspark and wondered, so your replies and info is of great use and really appreciated as always.

Nice to know about the coil, saw they did a dizzy and coil as a package and it made me wonder if they needed changing, also a thread on here from a few years back said expect ht leads to fail due to sharper voltage, is that a real possibility or leave and if its needs sort it then.

:praise:

Had one of those Simon BBC distributers myself on my 2.25P.

The engine ran OK with standard dizzy, but stuttered and faltered a bit.

Was transformed when I fitted the electronic one.

Go for it.

I’m going to give it a whirl Mark. :)

The weights get bunged up on the original; mind you I haven’t lubed them so I’m guilty for it. Looked at standard dizzy's Paddocks cheap and Lucas Original, just think it time for an upgrade.

So this is the one I’ve got earmarked for purchase, replacing me 25D: Standard Electronic should do? Will buy a timing gun as well, Seem right to everyone?

Yep its the dizzy type I had.

You don't really need a timing gun, as all you need to do is set the static timing with a lamp.
