Hi everyone. I’m new to the site and hope someone knows what is going on with my car. I have a Freelander 2 2.2 diesel Automatic 2007 and it has what appears to be 2 faults but which may be related. Problem one is that after driving for a while, usually 30 minutes or so if I have to stop and then go into reverse there is a slight delay and then a significant clunk as it goes into gear. Problem two is that when accelerating it occasionally surges as though it’s not sure which gear it should be in. I have taken it to a garage and it shows no faults. I also had the service done early including gearbox and transmission oil replacing. Hopefully I’ve given enough information for someone to help. Thanks everyone

I can't help if it is the gearbox, but even if its nothing to do with this, have you have the Haldex serviced?

It is often overlooked and was not originally on the LR service schedule - but can cause (serious) issues if not maintained properly.

I would take it to an auto gearbox specialist. Sounds like low fluid or blocked filter. Get it looked at before it costs you a packet.

Hi and thanks for your reply. I have already taken it to LR and after checking both the gearbox and transmission, replacing oil in both they said they couldn’t get the faults to occur as it doesn’t do it all the time so they said they don’t know what it could be. So approximately £600 later and it still hasn’t fixed the issue. Has done it twice since getting it back. Strange it only does it when it’s hot
