Hello rangies,
Bought myself a set of 18 inch mondial for my p38 97DSE.

Im wondering what size tire is recomended. I’ve taken a look on Cooper discoverer which i believe was 235/45/18.

Its for summer driving. Want the spiced up summer tires for some light offroading, mostly driving work-home but i like the looks of some threads :rolleyes:
I heard general grabber is bad.

I heard general grabber is bad.

I have General Grabber AT2 on 18" rims and they're the best tyres I have had on it bar none. 255/55/R18.
 
I thought all P38s had the same wheel options
my 2A has RRC wheels on with 205R16 Michelin XM+S244 tyres still fitted.. they arent in bad nick for the age

In my 1995 handbook there was an option of a 7J or an 8J rim but I cannot recall if the 7J was for both the 16" and 18" rim or just one of them. There were widths of 255 mm and 235 mm with the profile adjusted as required to keep the rolling radius the same.

7J was a steel 16" rim fitted as a spare on my French project car.
 
Im unsure in what i should go for, the cooper discoverer has better fuel economy apparently, grabbers has the "advantage" with snow marking of their grabber AT3's.. 4 grabbers will be 200pounds more expensiver than discoverer.

Also, the rims are 18 Mondial.

Hows the noise level on the grabbers? I currently have hakka 10 wintertires ( studs) so is the noise comparable perhaps?
So i should go for 255/55/R18 as @kermit_rr said were stock.

I use my p38 as daily driver, i dont need AT tires, but i want them so if i'd ever want to drive offroad, i wont be helpless on my normal city tires... also they look kinda cool

So i still want a comfortable ride, and i will perhaps tow a trailer few times a year. if thats relevant.
 
Do you need the “snow” markings? As I expect you have to change to studded, or could you run with the snow markings?
I guess that sort of says how I would go:).

We change tyre rules here too so we run 2 sets. Although we have kept winters on the last 2 years:) (not studded).

Surprisingly quiet with the AT2. The AT3 has a less aggressive pattern so I would guess quieter but not so good in mud. Sure someone on here had AT3s, @Mark Piercy ?

Here in Norway we usually use 2 sets aswell. maybe up north they only use winter tires dunno, never been there :D

I don't need the snow marking on my summer tires, nay. It sure is an advantage (as you wont need to rush to swap to winter tires), but i've heard AT tires in general ain't sufficient enough in cold weathers/icy roads.
Heard AT tires are quite decent on Snow, atleast some of them.

I did drool abit on the KO2's, (as a primary winter tire) but i got told they really were a joke on ice.
 
But then again, if i really wanted a heavy duty AT tire, i'd go steel rim or some other rim to make it look solid and badass. But theese are mondials, so i dont wanna like make the tire stand to much out if you know what im saying. Since the mondials are so cooool, atleast on a black p38!

You run 2 sets cos you have studs. Do you have to run them by law? Or do you need only “snow sign” to run winter months?

From what I know about tyres (not much) the snow 1s are a softer compound and have those funny little squiggles in them:) don’t know the tech term.

We carry chains (law) for a few months of the year and require snow markings. Never had to get chains out yet;)

Not many tyres are great on ice, except maybe your studded ones:).
