Hi,

I have just purchased a project series 1 and and I am going to remove the radiator and fuel tank to clean out and see if they have life left in them.

Anyone recommend the best proceedure to do this
Cheers Toby
PS - there is no engine in the car!!

the radiator is the easy one once its out connect a hosepipe to the bottom outlet then run water from the hot tap through the rad while its upside down when the water runs clear then connect the pipe to the top inlet take the cap off the radiator and block the bottom outlet and fill it with hot water again once full feel it with the palm of your hand for cold spots

if theres no cold spots then yer have a good rad as long as theres no leaks

if you find cold spots on the radiator repeat this process with something like holts radflush or similar product :D:D:D

For the inside of the removed fuel tank (with the sender removed) I would firstly give it a swill out with half a gallon of clean petrol to remove any loose deposits (you can store and re-use that fuel for cleaning other stuff so it isn't wasted), then I would use half a gallon of acetone based cleaner inside the bunged (sealed as best you can) tank giving it a gentle swill on occasion then flush it with very hot soapy water. After this, flush it through with cold water from the hose until you are satisfied all detergent is removed. Lastly, be extremely patient by drying the inside with a hot air gun down the filler to dry it out. Try and store it somewhere where the inside wont condensate and rust until you need it.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the advice.
Anyone heard of the cheap coca cola method - fill it with cheap coke and it will get rid of all of the old rust like with a copper coin.
Cokes 35p a litre at my local store!

Last time I wanted to clean out my tank...I put loads of nuts bolts washer ect in the tank once removed from the landrover...

I put about 0.5 gall of deisel thinned down with white spirit and gave it a real good agitation...then flushed it out.

Nick.
