I have just fitted a steering guard which meant having to remove my jate rings for it to fit.

I have a Mantec winch bumper which has the usual welded-on ring on top of the bumper to the side of the winch where most people attach their winch hooks.

I have a couple of questions that I'd be grateful if you could give me your opinion on:

1. Would this hook be ok for light recovery? I.e bottomed out on the diff and just need a light pull as opposed to full on kinetic rope recovery? Or should I avoid at all costs?

2. What's the situation with swivel eyes attached to the bumper. Is is a case of drilling 4 holes and bolting to a normal bumper with a sandwich plate? If so what term should I google or search on eBay?

Lastly, I guess I shouldn't be recovering from my steering guard?

Any advice would be appreciated as I've now lost my front recovery points and really wish I'd bought a steering guard with integrated recovery points.

James :)

steering guards ive fitted i have been able to reift jate rings after ,but you coud attach point to bumper inline with chassis leg

D-rings are very good, they bolt onto the chassis at the bumper mountings and are very strong. Being above the bumper they are also easier to attach shackles to and don't get burried like Jate rings. Don't get ones for Series vehicles as they can't be fitted to 90/110's (the base is too long) but the later ones fit all vehicles.

my steering guard has recovery points built in, what guard you got.

Thanks guys, I'll look into getting some D rings. Not sure what guard it is. I bought it from eBay last year, but it doesn't have any branding (or recovery points)!

Good point about having recovery points above the bumper as it saves kneeling in the mud fishing about for a jate ring!
