Just a quick one,

Instead of buying a 200 tdi to transplant into my 1986 N/A (so please let's assume that I am NOT fitting a 200 tdi!!!), would a turbo along with the turbo manifolds from a 19J make any noticeable difference to my N/A? I'm not going to swap the fuel pump around, but simply just bolt the turbo on. Would it climb hills any better, and would it cause problems that the 19J is famous for such as cracked pistons and cracked blocks etc. I do tend to thrash it a bit!

Cheers

With the added turbo and no IP mods, you will just be geting more air, not more fuel so no more power.

It will probably burn a little bit cleaner, so be a bit more efficient, but the power boost will be minimal - i looked at doing this to mine, decided it wasn't worth it.

i'm pretty sure ya cant do it easily pos , i'm sure ya need vacuum pipes from yer turbo to ya pump fer fuelin reasons ... and a non turbo will be high compression while the turbo engine will be low compression ...

i could be talkin oot me ass tho so i'd check me facts if i wer you ...

Thanks for the info, I'll look into it, I thought it might have been just as easy as bolting on the new manifolds but I doubt it would give me any real power boost anyway for the reasons that Boydy suggested.

isnt it the turbo which is known to overload that engine? I have heard of (is it 19J) engines digesting their own oil through the turbo.

Its the combination of the turbo and the added fueling restuling in hotter and more violent combustion, and so more power.

But yes the turbos seem to bathe themselves in oil in this engine from what i have heard, which can also result in them running away.

Cheers Porthos, a very generous offer, but after reading about the problems with the TD engine, I might as well not potentially spoil a decent engine!

Yer thinking petrol injuns mate ;)

Diesels tend to be around the 20:1 to 22:1 compression ratio whether they're turbocharged or not... although some are as low as about 14:1 or 15:1 and some are as high as 25:1 I've just googled while making sure I wasn't talking out of me miniman ;)

Oi pos something else you might want to consider. Your insurance company will fall on their arse laughing. Then when they get up they'll tell you to fook off.:D

the 12J couldn't cope with a turdo which is why it fooked up, they had to make loads of mods to the 12J to make it a 19J which was strong enough for a turdo so no, GETTA FOOKIN 200 in there ffs!!!
