Im on the look out for a series 3, 109 2 door hard top tin side project . However, despite there being a few about they are either eluding me, or those that are available are pricey for the condition. So I have spread my search a little wider and wanted to ask a question that given the unitary constuction of these things I migh already know the answer to, but I have zero experience of these so just wanted some confirmation before I make any costly mistakes or purchases .

So the question is , can I easily convert a canvas top picup to a hard top tin side by more or less bolting the sides and top to the soft top base . ?

The base vehilce would be ex MOD full canvas top from screen the tail .

I appreciate I would need a back door and suitable hinges , Im guessing that the mount holes for the sides will already be in the top edge of the pick up bed ?

many thanks .

Ive seen a few and considered that route as an option . The roof will need modified and would have had to come off a tin top , buing one without will be the job half done LOL..

I should read the opening post properly.

I saw your original reply , still relevent info, Again ive seen 4 doors with solid sides and 4 doors with glazed sides and did fleeting consider a 4 door but was aware of the B post C post configaration, doesnt stop me thinking of ways to make things work :)

Yes very easily. You would need:
roof
solid sides
rear door
hinges
tub-to-side seals
side-to-roof seals
mouting bolts which fit into the capping holes

It is then just a case or removing the cavass top, unbolting the soft top frame and lifting it off (do not forget to remove the shark tooth rail across the windscreen). Fitting the mounting bolts into the holes in the cappings which the soft top frame tubes sit into, and lifting the new roof and sides into positioning and tightening everything up. Then you can remove the tailgate, fit the hinges (may need to drill the holes for the lower hinge if it has had a tailgate all its life) and then fit hinges and door.

I did the opposite with a swb (exactly the same process just smaller pieces and less bolts):

Thats cool , I suspected it would be all bolt on but is good to have confirmation , Im just reasuring myself before I secure a base vehicle ..
