hi can any one help
I have a disco with a 200tdi fitted and a few mounths ago it would fail to start, so i replaced the start/stop solinoid which apeared to solve the problem until yesterday.
she had been running (up to temp) and was switched off for a few mins and upon restarting sounded as if she was missing and only running on 2 cylinders but soon cleared and was fine until today
i stopped at garage and she would not restart so a loosened the start/stop solinoid and retightend and she started up on half turn. but now when running at about 2500 revs she hesitates and looses all power for a split second and then picks up again.when i was stood i held her at 2500 revs and she would die and then come back and die again whilst this was happening the rev counter was normal but the speedo was jumping about all over the place. anybody any ideas
thanks nm

Not come across this one meself but .........

I have heard that Disco's can suffer from earth faults resulting in the engine earthing through the throttle cable and handbrake cable

Would imagine this would give similar symtoms to yours due to the engine not earthing out properly ........ wrecks the cables too

Might be way off the mark here but gotta be worth checking your earth cables .... could be a "free" fix ;) :D

might also want to run a 12v supply direct to the stop/start solenoid (via a switch) - bypassing the existing wiring as you might have an intermittant connection to it

hi biglad
the disco is a m reg 1994 which was originaly fitted with a v8 but was replaced with a 200 tdi so would it have the sedimenter on it

cheers

I don't know for sure, so get underneath and have a look !!

You'll find it (a canister looking thing) on the drivers side, attached to the inside off the chassis, just in front of the rear wheel.

To take off the bowl, you need to undo the retaining bolt, accessible from the top of the unit, about 11mm iirc.

Cheers

I have fitted a few diesels into cars/vans that had originaly had petrol engines over the years , the fuel (petrol) pickup in the tank normally has a fine mesh filter that is too fine for diesel fuel and soon gets blocked.

Just a thought

deffo sound more like a fuel issue than an earth. dont think the starter and the revs dying are related. just 2 seperate probs. sediment, filter, clean out injectors frun some treatment through and all should be well.
when you take off your sediment tank see if there are any little bubbles of water in it...

thanks all for your help i think it may be intermitant elecky problem because i have taken plunger out of solinoid and she runs fine

glad it's sorted

some peeps on here do go off on one and want to start pulling the vehicle apart when the fault is something very simple

you did give a very big clue when you said -

"i stopped at garage and she would not restart so a loosened the start/stop solinoid and retightend and she started up on half turn"
