Hi all

This is probably a daft one but I noticed today that my ace/steering tank only has pipes coming from the steering side and the two out pipes on the ace tank are capped off? I'm guessing this means that the ace system is not functioning? Or am I missing something obvious and this is normal?

Let the ribbing commence.....

Hi,

Not such a silly question.

First, do you have ACE?
is there a divide between the ACE fluid and the PAS fluid side of the tank?
It maybe someone has disconnected the ACE from your vehicle, in which case was it done correctly?
So.
Is the ACE pump in place or is it just a pulley?
Is the ACe system in place on the suspension? or has it been rplaced by normal ARB's?
Is the ACE valve block in place?

Oh, and finally , can you confirm vehicle?

Cheers

Hi Neilly

Thanks for the reply and diagram. As far as I can tell all the parts are present, just not hooked up to the tank. I'm guessing the previous owner had a problem with it and diddnt want to fork out for the repair. The model is a disco 2 2001 ES. The hose for the tank is still present. I'm tempted to empty the tank, connect up the hose, refill it and see if I get a dash error? Or would that be asking for trouble? (I'm having to learn fast about landy engines as this is my first one!). I'll put up a picture this evening.

Cheers

Ian

Hi Ian,

A note of concern:

Have you checked the pump is still there? or was it replaced by a pulley?

If the pump is still there , is the pipework routed so that there is fluid flowing through it? if not then the pump is running dry and has the potential to seize, causing aux belt failure, which means no water pump.

Either way, it sounds like it was disconnected incorrectly , compared to completely removing and replacing with the correct replacement parts. How serious is it regarding the incorrect way it was done, is something that will cause a lot of discussion because of the way the system works. Sorry to appear negative.

The Good news is that the spare parts for replacing and keeping a good working ACE system appear to be getting cheaper, If you do a search you will find many advocates for keeping the system in place and making sure it works correctly.

May be worth doing what you suggest and finding out what caused the PO to disconnect the tank. I would suggest finding someone local to you with diagnostics ready and willing to plug in and check the system as well.

Good luck.

Cheers

Thanks for all the help guys, this is a little beyond me so it's going of to my local landy garage on Monday for diagnostics. It seems all the parts are present but the tank is not hooked up. I have a feeling this will be expensive!

Thanks again

Ian
