Hello hope some one can help, I’ve just bought a Disco 2, 7 seater. I have noticed that the air suspension has been removed and coil springs with air assist fitted in replacement (think its Airlift 1000). Also the ACE has been turned off and drained.

My main concern is the legal drivability of the car. I have spoken to land rover sealers x2 and there customer care centre who can't see any issues with putting coils on a 7 seater or swapping the ACE for standard ARB. They also said it is optional to have them fitted. But some of the forums point out that it is illegal.

Any advice as I need to get the car road worthy. Should I remove the two rear seats. To put the car back to standard would cost a lot of money. Any one converted a 7 seater with standard ARB's

Hi Steve911, I've converted ACE to "standard" or DE-ACED as it's also known .I left my airbags in and bought new ARB's and droplinks ,the front ARB being the standard ARB and the rear is specifically for SLS models but was not available from the usual suppliers and after searching high up and low down eventually came accross a distributor who had some in Hampshire..so I assume you have had this done to .Mind you I did drive around with the ACE disconnected on the old ARB's for some time until the new ones arrived but the sea sickness was unbearable so didn't take it on any long journeys etc..I'm happy I now have a more reliable car which handles well and has just passed it's NCT (MOT)

Allegedly the DII was never type approved for 7 seats on springs, so technically you could be in breach of construction and use regulations, but in reality it probably isn't an issue.

However not informing your insurance company the vehicle has been modified from the manufactured specification could be, they use any excuse nowadays to get out of payouts ect.

Thank for the reply I havent removed the ACE yet, I am having the same problem trying to get the rear ARB's. I have springs fitted now so don't now what type to fit. I know extreme have a kit has anyone fitted these to the disco 2.

As for the air bags it confusing as land rover say its all ok. My Disco is a 2000 reg and when I check the spec with landrover it comes up saying that ACE was not fitting and cannot specify what suspension was fitted. So how can insurance find out the truth on a 11 year old car. I will speek to the insurance company soon. My consern is they may refuse to insure it

Where are you checking the spec of your Disco?

I was always led to believe that with a 7 seater they only ever left the factory with air suspension, springs were not an option.

The complete spec for your specific vehicle can be found on the Microcat software all you need is your reg no. or chassis no..

If you don't have a copy search on here and download or if you prefer PM me your reg no and i'll have a look

Cheers Biggeeee.
I'm getting the general spec told to me by landrover dealers that it wouldnt matter what was fitted to a 7 seater. I do believe this is wrong. I told landrover customer care my reg number and they said my vehicle was not fitted with ACE even do it has it and cant specify if it air or spring supension. I will PM my reg thanks for the offer.

removing the ace causes no problems as long as the antirool bars are replaced with non ace type but as said above there are no 7 seaters that left the factory with coil suspension BUT land rover do sell coil springs for 7 seaters so i see no problems in fitting them if it could or should not be done then they would not sell them

I also have a TD5 year 2000 and mine is fitted with Ace and SLS.
I have read many different forums on this subject and it all seems to be the same answer.
The problem is with the insurance companies.
I think your best bet is to give your insurance a ring to see what they say.
I just decided to leave it all on mine as I tow a large 22ft twin wheel caravan and thought it would help with the road holding. Last place I want to be is in a ditch.
Simon.

:eek:Cheers martin good point, I have spoke to LR and they say there is no problems as the coils can be fitted to 7 seater. I have no choice seeing al last person removed and fitted coils. The advantage I have got is that he fitted airlift 1000 in side them which work really well. Even with the ACE drained I get no body role and the hole rig is sollid.
As fot the ACE Biggeee has checked and according to LR mine never had ACE as standard. Soout its going. Cant repaire as far to expensive. Spoke th Extreme 4x4 and bought a kit that apparently just bolts onto where the old ACE fits. (no drilling) they seem very help full will let you know how I get on.
I do now the insurance company will get out of anything (robbers), my friend never got paid out because he never told them he changed his wheels to shiny alloys.

I have now ordered ARB kit from Extreme4x4. They seem realy helpfull and said the bars will bolt onto were the old ACE fits. I hope so as it will make the job a lot easyer. Anyone fitted these bars from Extreme any advice would be great

hello all, i have a 2002 LR discovery 2 with SLS.
i noticed recently that once i park the vehicle the back is lowered when the vehicle is on normal ride while it doesn't lower at all when i select off road before parking.
please what could be the problem.

if there is a leak, how can i possible trace the position and what do i do to fix the problem.
please note that the back lowers evenly when it drops and rises once the engine is running.

i'll appreciate your quick response.

It sounds as though it's doing exactly what it's designed to. When you get out the back rises slightly so the SLS lowers it to the correct height. This feature soesn't operate in ORM.

I have a U clamp for the bars to attach to the chassis, one end of the clamp has a bolt hole the other a plate piece which looks like it slots into some thing. I havent had time yet tonight to look under the car. I will try and post a picture tomorrow. Any tips will be much appreciated

Hi, just registered. I've got a TD5 with leaking ACE pipes, and would also like to replace with the ARB kit. I've been searching the web all day and can't find anything on web sites, although members on various fora mention them.

Could you maybe provide a link to where you bought the kit?

Is Extreme 4X4 the www.extreme4x4.co.uk ? (I can't find any link to the kit on that site).

Or maybe someone could post a link to another site?

Thanks!
