Hi just bought 2000 discovery v8 has ace fitted but it's disconnected from the fluid hoses ...I'm not sure about why it's not connected but the pump is still connected and running without any fluid going through it . Can I just remove the pump and use a non ace belt through a pulley or by taking the pump away will it throw up some warning lights . Don't really want to keep the pump running when it's pumping nothing really and seems a wee bit daft to have left it in play after disconnecting the hoses .. Anybody have any help on this . Many thanks

You should find out from wherever you bought it why its in this condition. ACE pumps dont tend to last long without fluid in them. Its likely it will eventually seize, taking your belt , tensioner and possibly your crank pulley with it. Its unusual that its not giving you warnings already. Most likely you have leaks in the system but seller doesnt want to pay to have the system fixed or removed. If you bought from a dealer take it back and demand they put it right.

+1 ^^^, dont use it so cos the pump is conceived to lubricate itself with the fluid and it will seize if dry, there are two solutions:
1. or improvise and connect the pump's outlet to the return to reservoir and fill with fluid in case you want to fix it some time in the future 2. or swap it with the special idler(ERR6949) and use non-ACE belt
