Hi All,

4.6 Vogue 2000 (petrol)

So, Recently, ABS failure pops on the dash board after ignition turned on and then traction failure. (Not started) Pressed Brake a few times and it went.. Not long after, it popped back again.. This happened daily until the other day when the missus was following me and said I had no Brake lights. Had a read through various things, and suggestions were faulty Brake Pedal Switch. So Being the cheapest of possible fixes, I have replaced that this evening, making sure that the switch pole is fully extended before inserting, pushing the brake pedal down and placing in its location.

On turning the ignition on, I still get the ABS failure, press the brake and get the traction failure, but do have brake lights now, whichis a start.

Questions I have initially are:-

1) If the brake pedal switch had been the cause of the failure (ABS/Traction), would these faults need tobe cleared or should they clear automatically.

2) What else should I be checking (not being a mechanic) but can use a fluke meter :)

Also, as a side note, with the recent bad snow etc, the truck was a dream, and found that if the TC kicked in, it sounded like the spring in the accelerator would 'ping'..

Thanks for your help guys (as always)

Tim

From recent experience if you were to put that on a Launch or Testbook it would probably show up 'Brake Switch fail'. Even though it's kind of working again it's still worth changing it for a new one. Stored faults have to be cleared from the memory although they won't show up on the dash, so the car can be used. For peace of mind you can have them cleared in case anything else shows up down the line.

Thanks for your help. At least I know I have to get these cleared now to get rid of the messages.. Will get her out on some mud in the next few days to check TC kicks in to be safe ;-)

Thanks again

I had the exact same symptoms as you describe.

Mine turned out to be a faulty ABS sensor (which was only diagnosed after spending £30.00 on a diagnostic read) -

Purchased a second hand one from Flea bay for a tennor and all sorted -

Hope that helps as I thought I was looking at a huge repair Bill - as you normally do when anything flashes up on the display!! :)
