The P38 at work (2001 Y-reg 4.0 SE) has just decided that the ABS and traction control lights were not earning their keep and have decided to come on and stay on.

Nothing untoward has happened to cause this - battery is fine, no emergency stops that could have triggered a sensor - and RAVE helpfully tells us to consult Testbook or visit a dealer.

Done a quick search but not much has come up, any ideas what is likely to have caused this or anything we can check?

Cheers!

I had just the same problem in the past few weeks. After checking ABS pump and accumulator i swapped out the ABS ECU under the nearside dash panel with a known good one of the same model number and hey presto no lights on.Picked up a seconhand one from Ebay for £110 and the problem is solved.
Hope this helps
Ed:)

A local forum member -jim snapon- had an ECU of the same model, i think yours will be the same going by the age SRD100501. I eliminated the accumulator as i had at least 2 or 3 presses of the brake pedal with engine running before pump came on ,and only stays on for 20 seconds or less before system is pressurised again, which pretty much means that pump and accumulator are doing a satisfactory job.Certainly worked for me. :D

Two votes for ABS ECU, then! Think we'll send it to Graham Goodyer in the morning for them to run a diagnostics check on it.

Cheers guys!

Could it be the bake light switch or bad connections on it as i had the same problem with mine when i forgot to put the plug back on the brake pedal

OK, looks like it is the ABS ECU as suspected - thanks guys.

Looking on eBay there are two models available:

ANR4898 (sometimes AMR4898)
ANR1250

How do I know which one we need? They both seem to be both ABS and Traction Control, and both listed for auto's as far as I can tell. Any ideas?

If your car is 2001MY, you need the one for 4 wheel traction control:):)

It's a 2001 Y-reg 4.0 SE, so could be the changeover year. Where is the ABS ECU located, I might go have a look if it is easily accesible?

The AMR4898 on eBay was removed from a 1996 car, so possibly it's the other one?

EDIT: found this in one advert:

ANR 4898 - Wabco ABS and Electronic Traction Control (ETC) ECU

All models From VIN TA316176 to WA410481

So will go check the VIN!

EDIT 2: just rang Land Rover, they reckon it needs SRD100501 - both AMR4898 and ANR1250 are from earlier vehicles.

Weirdly there's loads of both of these on eBay, but none of the SRD's!!

My car is a late 2000 DHSE, I was under the impression that it had 4 wheel TC:confused: Indeed I thought that 4 wheel TC was fitted from MY99.

Not surprising there are loads of early TC ECU's available, there are 4/5 years worth of early cars but only2/3 years of the newer model and it's mostly the early ones that are scrappers.
