I would never be arrogant enough to think I know it all Mark so no worries about eggs and Grandmothers -lol I was replacing the hub (using one from spare axle) as the wheel bearing was u/s. Gave up trying to remove the sensor on the car and just pulled the hub, which destroyed the sensor in the process. So, thought I'd use one of the sensors in my spare axle. One of those is now destroyed trying to get it out. Only one left :-(

You may have to just get a new one then...at least then you can just clear the hole quickly, without any worries about if it'll work once you've put it all back together. .. I wouldn't have thought they were cheap? Not done any of mine yet..;) good luck!

I press old ones out hubs ,,,on a press ,.And iv used a chain with a small jack and a socket after removing drive shaft to get them moving on car .Confess not dun a RR yet, but give the donor a good soak if not new prior to removal;)

so guys, done, finally. My solution after trying everything else. 1. Cut the top off the sensor 2. Tap the edges of the remains of the sensor in to the housing so that they are away from the edge. 3. Using an appropriately sized drift (I used a drill bit), hammer the hell out of the sensor till it comes out of the bottom of the housing. (assumes hub has been removed). 4. Very carefully file down (or use emery paper) the housing to remove the rust layer until the sensor and associated clip slide in (and out) with only a little effort. 5. coat the inside of the housing with copper grease to reduce the danger of a repeat problem. Anytime you're doing anything with the wheel off give it a spray of WD40 or similar.

I hope this helps somebody. I can't believe I'm the only one that's had this problem.

Rest assured you are not but most of us just did what you did and fitted new sensors, I did elongate the hole in the dust covers that the hub can be moved in future without removing the sensor.

Never heard of one that badly rusted. If you look in RAVE it has the type of grease it should have been bedded into. Sounds like someone replaced it with no grease and it just welded itself in there.
