abs light

the abs light has kept coming on. L/r dealership have said it needs a new unit at a cost of £2,500.00!!!!! has any one else had this problem and managed to sort it a bit cheaper...like about two grand cheaper!

A mate had this problem with his 300tdi. Went to a main stealer for a diagnostic and was quoted silly money. He went to an independant specialist who got them in. Cost 900 quid or so.
Someone said to him take the warning bulb out or tape over it as it works without, but i dont know if this is the best course of action really, and as it cropped up at MOT time it failed it and had to be sorted.

what is the fault on the diagnostic computer say if it says anything about all 4 wheel sensors then ask if the the disco has had the recall campaign No A263B that is renew the slabs ecu.Because the had faults on them and it should be done of free.
