hello again guys I'm back for more advice. My Range Rover p38 2.5td 1997. keeps coming up with abs fault on the dashboard, I was told it was the abs break boost valve been replaced an still doing it, not all the time tho, when it does it the car pulls to the left an the break peddle is rock hard release the break an re apply an it's ok..!! HELP ME please..

Any ticking noises from the modulator? Cheapest option is probably to bleed the system really thoroughly and hope that cures it. Sure the gurus will be along shortly.

No noises, I've bled it loads. But I will try it again tomorrow. So do you think it's nothing serious.?

I don't know. I am hoping one of the gurus will turn up. Rock hard pedal sounds like the pressure assistance isn't happening. So, what might stop that? Air in system would be 1, hence if ticking noise it would be worth bleeding. After that things get expensive. If the reserve ball thing has gone then that might be an issue but you'd hear the ABS pump running every time you press the pedal instead of every 3rd to sixth time. Or if the valves in the modulator were jammed then it would give issues (bleeding might help) so you're looking at some money there. Or maybe the ABS pump itself is dodgy but don't go there because it costs a fortune.

Did you bleed it as per Rave?

Worth noting if you let air in the modulator it can be a real PITA getting it out. The first part of the bleed procedure in RAVE is to clear air from the modulator. If the level has been too low then use the Gunson Easibleed kit and just flush a litre of so through the modulator (start with the clutch if manual) then the RAVE modulator bleed and then after that follow the usual RAVE method. I once had to flush 5 litres through after I put a replacement modulator on.

Well to be honest it's already cost me a fortune, :(. Ok well well in probably best just tying to bleed it again..

No I don't know what your taking about mate to be honest.. I just thought I'd buy the car for work. But everything seems to have gone wrong since the head gasket went.

Rave is the workshop manual . Put Rave in the search box ,top right of page and you should find a link to download it. Sorry, I assumed you knew, its essential for all R/R owners. You may find a link in the Technical Archive as well.:D

It's important to follow the destructions to the letter in the Rave manual - conventional bleeding wisdom won't cut it because of the complexity of the pressure pump and the attendant ABS modulator.
There's three bleeding nipples on the modulator and of course one at each corner of the car.
Make sure the feed hose is in good condition between the brake fluid reservoir and the pump.
As other guys have said on here make sure you have around three or four litres of brake fluid to hand before you start - and it is a long process and can't be stressed enough has to be done methodically.
Lastly, you'll need a bleeding assistant and a patient one at that.

In addition to all previous advice id check all the abs sensors are pushed fully home in there fittings on each wheel ,there is no air gap ,They have to touch the abs ring ,they are self setting ..Also check the abs cables for chaffing,or split outer casing ;)....
