Hi guy's, just sold my VW T25 Campervan and now shopping for Discovery 2, this is an itch which has been needing a scratch for a long time. Big thanks to this forum for lots of info. Planning to go see a couple tomorrow. Rgds Area73.

Start underneath and check the chassis for rot, especially the rear. Don't even open a door until you are satisfied the chassis is sound. You will walk away from the majority without even starting the engine.

What a heap! Pictures had been taken while car was wet so looked polished, yes chassis was solid but there wasn't an unmarked panel on it, final nail in the coffin was the fact the small qtr glass on the NSR door had been broken and replaced with a bit of ply wood painted black! Didn't even bother opening a door or starting it. Plenty of oil leaks underneath too. He was looking £2500, Jez I wouldn't have paid a grand for it.

I do quite like the p38a even though it's got a bad reputation but it's ins grp is 35 vrs disco's 26 and I'd prefer to pick up a seven seater if possible. But if I keep turning up turds I may have to rein in the criteria!

Strange, I was going by the buying guides in the back of LRO magazine. Was getting ins quotes £300 - £400 for the d2 bucket. Haven't priced p38a yet for comparison.

Well done on walking away. There are decent D2s out there at sensible prices, but you have to search for them. I looked at 20 or so before finding a good one. My experience was that dealers are universally selling overpriced crap. I once drove 250 miles each way to see a manual ES in Epson Green with cream leather. It was priced at £6500 and described as mint. I got out of the car, looked underneath, got back in the car and drove away. They had sprayed black paint over the chassis to conceal the rust, but it was laminating and coming off in handfuls. Try to buy from an enthusiast not a dealer - EBay is your friend, not autotrader.

Ive bit the bullet and picked up a clean 2003 GS Td5! Twice the wagon compared to that other shed!
