A strange one, any ideas

Just started in the last week. When I unlock my car, (about 70% of the time), the red l.e.d on the dash beeps twice, quite quickly and a beep sounds at the same rate. This repeats until I depress the "unlock" button again on the remote.

Don't spose they've changed the method of telling folk about a low remote battery, have they ? (It used to be the horn that was sounded).

I think that is a low remote battery warning. Both my remotes were low when I bought my 54 TD4 a couple of months ago and I am sure that I was getting two short beeps after unlocking and a fast flashing red light. The pack I bought from my LR dealer came as a pair. Not more than a very few of your English pounds.

As stated its the battery in the remote.

I far as I know they never used the horn to warn you about a low battery on the freelander the only time the horn went of is when you were locking it and either a door or bonnet or rear window was either open or the sensor on them had gone caput

Ah yes, bugger, I had forgotten that's why the horn beeped at you when using the remote. Sorry all.

Will get a pair of new batteries and replace both.
