just wondering if the remote locking on 300 TDI Discoveries is generally rubish or is it just mine, it only works when less than about ten maybe fifteen feet away, tried changing battery but no change and the same happens with the spare remote too, does anyone know where the sensor is located?

It's not rubbish, it's designed that way ... ;)

They're all the same ... if you want to open something from across a carpark, get something else.

mines the same too, you have to be about 10 feet away from it,
sure its sumat to do with the immobiliser.

The distance varies for me if the vehicle battery is full charged then it's about 12' if not then is 6' or there abouts.
But the locking/unlocking works which you should be pleased about.

And the sensor is part of the alarm ecu and located behind the passenger side glove box.

I guess sticking the sensor behind the glovebox doesn't help, suppose that explains why it works even less well from behind the vehicle......still i shouldn't complain as waving a remote keyfob around like a lightsabre is still much less embarrasing than having an old gentleman knock on your window in a busy car park and inform you that your back box just landed on the floor with a deafening thud!!!!

P.S
Thanks for the info

Mines just the same, but the Top Gear tip really does work, I was very sceptical, hold the beeper to your temple and press the button, range increases to about 50 ft

You are kidding about the top gear thing right????.....hmmm maybe i'll try it next time i'm out, couldn't be worse than the light sabre way!!!!!

That is exactly what I said!

I still don't belive it even though I use it

I'm Victor Meldrew every time I put the beeper to my head and press the button

Does make you look bit odd, but hell yeah it does work and triples distances!!! What about the old wives tale of zapping ya remote down a mobile phone and having someone else with another phone open ya motor whilst stood next to it????? Personally i think its bo!!ocks but a guy i know reckons it works! But then he also reckons his shogun is good off road!!! :hysterically_laughi:hysterically_laughi And by good i mean bettter than my disco, ahem yeah ok. . . . .

nope top gear did the mobile fone trick as well The remote emits a radio frequency not a sound tone, but even if it did there is no way the fones audio speaker could transmit an identical sound wave to the one emitted by the remote.
