A quick question on the IACV

Hi all,
Just taken off my IACV to clean, my question is/are

Is it supposed to move freely when removed and what is its resting position?

Mine is rock solid and about halfway open but no more gunk coming out when I spray it.

I think that device is controlled by a small internal stepper motor. That motor takes 'instructions' from the ECU re' its settings and how much air it allows in to maintain an even idle dependent on engine temp... As such I don't think it shouldn't move freely as stepper [or stem] motors only move in predetermined amounts.

From memory the ECU cycles the IACV stepper motor on ignition switch on. So you should see the valve move in and out when the ignition is first switched on.
