A question about building a 100" Hybrid....

have a check on fbay first seen quite a few Unfinished projects, maybe good source of bits.

you not seen a 4x4 is born? doesnt go into that much detail is you would like but gives yer a good outline of whats to be done.

to be honest i think mark evans is a patronising prick that tries to be cool. he does hardly any of the work himself and spends fortunes of the programmes bottomless pit of a budget on pointless brand new parts. i think if ou can stomach his attitude for more than 5 minutes youmight get some sort of jist of the idea but apart from that i think its a waste of time

yer but what am saying is it gives you a rough idea if yer can past him being a twerp, aslo might add a little inspiration.

if its inspiration yer after then go to a landy meey where someone has a 100 incher. have a look at it . that should fill you with the stuff. if it doesnt, you arent really up for it

It does seem to be a matter of personal taste and tailoring the wagon to your own needs.

I will see if I can get to see this '4x4 is born flick', but I won't be overly worried about giving it a go without.

I have already started drawing up a short and long list, short for things to do to my Disco in preparation and a long list of all the things that will have to be done, gotten, adapted, watched out for in order to get the Landy I have always wanted.

Heres to a long and I hope funny and enjoyable, and not too painful road to 100" success.

i managed to download it of lime wire mate, there is a link on this forum to donwnload it of line, type in a 4x4 is born on the search bar and it should find it.

Right then, I have the space to start the project and at the end of the month when all the legals run out, off the road she comes!

I will start to disconnect all the inside stuff from the outside stuff pretty much straight away and as soon as I feel sure it is all disconnected I will want to get the shell lifted off.

Does any one think I should try keeping much of the shell/internal fitting or service equipment?

So far I have thought about keeping the rear side-mount seats from the load area and of course all that is needed of the vehicle controls, switch gear, clock panel, pedal-set, steering wheel and column.

As for anything from the shell that anyone want; all you got to do is let me know and as a fellow Landy lover, you can have it....!

Condition is; you want it, you come and get it or send me the postage costs, that is all!

p.s. For you info; it is a 'J' plate 200Tdi Disco and all that that entails!

best thing to do is strip it to a rolling chassis. i would fit a new wiring loom so if you have acces to something big enough to lift the shell off like a fork lift the just cut the wires from the shell to the chassis unbolt it and lift away in one

I thought of getting the local scrappy to come along with his truck and hi-hab hoist to lift it off fer a few quid!

Yer right on the loom too, it can easily get the chop.



So just dis-connect the steering shaft at the bottom, pull it all out, nab the clock panel and other useful bits out and then go fer the lift?

i wouldnt let the scrappy take it. there are going to be loads of little ****erish bits that you will need from it. and if you need to fabricate anything you can use bits of the roof as good metal

'E ain't a bad sort, I give 'im an old hangin' bit 'o shiit Audi 80 quattro a couple 'o years back as 'e needed the engine fer 'is project and 'e thinks 'e owes me now.

How about get yourself the Mark Ewans (A 4x4 is born dvd ) I feel sure it was a 100 incher he built if not its a good starter to wots involved . No im not taking the pi**

I will proceed with caution and measure twice, cut once!

Bugger some other blokes highly budgeted uber-hybrid build, I'm sure there are some good pointers on the film, but lets face it, from all I've heard so far each one is different.

yup. they all follow the same principal but everyone does things in a different way. the one thing that is a must though is the position of the bulkhead outriggers. everything else just follows on from there . i'd like to follow your progress as im hoping to do one myself next year.
