....goes to Lee_D of this parish for wasting his time trying to load a V8
into the back of his Range Rover. Of the help that was promised, only half
of it turned up, tried feebly then said "it's too heavy" and wandered off
again.

Surely it wouldn't take more than 4 folk? 6 would be better, but what do I know?

3 of us once lifted a massive compressor & pump set up over head height, it must have weighed 150-200kg.
We used all manner of bodges to do it, but we got there!

We were nearly doing it with 2 (myself and Lee) but it would have gone in
with 4. Unfortunately only one extra person could be persuaded to be parted
from their cosy armchair and he's not much use when it comes to moving
heavy objects despite being fairly strong and very fit - he tends to panic
and let go at inopportune moments.

We had rope and a weight lifting bar which was long enough for two people
but there was also a scaffolding pole which would have sleeved over the
other bar giving enough length for 4 people to lift. With the engine tied
closely to the bar it would have been a doddle to lift it into the back of
the Rangie. They wouldn't help despite saying they would earlier. If I'd
known that I'd have told Lee to wait until the engine crane was back.
There wasn't even a plank to walk the engine up.

The person who is currently borrowing the engine crane couldn't be contacted
and he keeps everything locked away securely when he's not there.

No worries... probably a dumb idea in the first place. I doubt I'll be
making another trip to be honest so if any one wants a V8 and has lots of
mates/crane to hand then Danny is your man. The cost of the fuel for a
second trip kind of rules out another visit for me.

We wandered down into Keswick and had a mooch around then fed the kids up
and buggered off home. Sadly it was too Foggy/dark/rainy/leaves on the line
to go hill walking by that time.

Frustrating bit is I've a crane on loan and would have come minus the family
with trailer and crane had I had a crystal ball. Not to worry perhaphs a
case of theres no such thing as a free dinner. Just need to add the tailgate
to the list of pannels to respray :-(

When you look at it alongside the current news it kind of pales into
insignificance. **** happens - thankfully mine seems miniscule.

6???
I lift a V8 -minus alternator and flywheel- alone. What are you Brits
made out of? ;-)

It's not that Brits can't do it. It is the fear of needing NHS hospital
treatment if they cause any damage ;-)

And whilst in hospital receiving treatment they'll probably contract
MRSA :(
