Hello Everybody,

I noticed a new sound from my dashboard today.

It's a high frequency ticking, the same as you'd get when winding a watch, or safe cracking.

It's coming from just below my right knee when I'm sitting in the drivers seat (RHD).

It appears to tick when I go over pot holes or a rough bit of road, or when I'm turning the steering wheel. It's kind of hard to tell.

Once I'm on smooth tarmac the ticking stops.

It could be a relay turning on and off very quickly, or something like that.

Any idea what could be making it, or what I need to replace?

Clicking pedals? Bolts or nuts loose in said area? Had you done any work on it recently was it a gradual onset or instant?

or at worst a bomb

Ha! It's too fast for a bomb!

It's not the pedals either. It sounds like it's coming from just behind the panel that bolts under the steering column. Is it the scuttle panel? Anyway...

It's quite quiet, and a light click rather like the sound you get when winding a watch. It does sound like a relay switching on and off, but I can't think what would be doing it at 50Hz, because that's how fast it sounds.

I haven't done any work in that area for months, and I only noticed it today.

I thought it might be something to do with power steering or he ABS but i'm not sure where those control modules are.
