Hey

the last week I have started to hear a squeal coming from the landy.

it is intermitant at first i couldnt find any link to speed, gears, excelaerating or breaking it sounded quite high like a dodgy uj or bearing or something but couldnt pin point where the noise was from

after a quick look and shove and poke around i ruled out the props as they are fairly new i couldnt see any play in the drive flanges either so knowing i wasnt in danger of a proshaft flying loose i drove a long journey to Eastnor Show.

again only a few squeaks on the way there. on the way home it squeaked but i think i noticed some vibration still couldnt force the fault happened at random but got home fine still not knowing.

two days later on my way to work the clutch bite point is very low no sign of the clutch slipping but the squeak now seems to be more on pull away and vibration has increased at speed

the clutch pedal returns up to the top when i got home i checked and sure enough i have lost fluid i know its not the clutch master as this was replaced last year and there is no sign of oil in my foot well like last time.

is it likely to be the slave and do you think the squeal / vibration could be linked to this or do i have more then one fault ?

sorry this is a bit of story but more facts the better and hope it make sence.

Thanks

Rich

cheers yeh that would explain the noise / judder vibration

would the bearing failing have any afect on the oil level i topped it up once i realised i had the fault as it was low and the level has stayed stable since !

Cheers Richard

It may appear lower because the clutch is sitting lower. Maybe?? When the bearing goes it may well be forcing its way through the spring plate. If it is that, it can go fairly suddenly without warning and be quite scary. Get it looked at

Thanks

Yeh i will be booking it in i just wanted to check i was down the right path before some garage tried adding bits to the bill when im not there lol

Is it a td5
If so my idler bearing started to sieze. up nothing to do with the clutch that is possibly unfortunate coinsidence
Idler bearing easy to swap not expensive hope this helps

My apologies for resurrecting a month old thread but i was wondering what the outcome of this was? I have the same problem now, minus the vibration, and i want to get it sorted sooner rather than later. The bite point on my clutch was really low before and it sorted itself but now its much worse and is accompanied by squealing from the gearbox area when pulling away in lower gears.

Cheers for any help in advance

Hi

yes all has been revealed now. it was a mix of problem not just clutch as first thought.

Vibration = rear prop UJ (i did give a quick look at the props before but because the bad weather and the fact they were new i dismissed them to early it appears)

Clutch Slave cylinder - was leaking that was the pedal / byte point.

also repaired at the same time minor jobs i knew but was putting off untill it needed looking at was swivel seals and a oil seal on trnasfer box and rear near side wheel bearing.

Parts and labour £280 using genuine or better heavy duty kit. repaird by Swindon 4x4 Job well done i think and fair priced

They did all that (inc swivel seals) for £280!!! Great value - well 'named' A

yeh ive used them a few times on jobs that are just to much effort with my basic tool kit and time.

They have a good reputation around here the guy phoned and check / confirmed everything with me before doing it and showed me the parts after im suprissed the prop didnt come off when driving after seing the mushed peice of metal that was a cv joint
