Hi everyone, due to being diagnosed with lung cancer I am going to be unable to work for the next while as I go through my treatment so I decided I needed something to occupy my time while I'm out of hospital. Having no knowledge of mechanics or auto repair I couldn't think of a better way to spend the next few months than getting an old Landrover back on the road! As luck would have it my friend had one lying in a field that he has very generously given to me as he's unlikely to ever use it again. It's been sitting for at least 4 years and I don't know when it was last running but from my uneducated glance over it *seems* to be in decent condition.

I believe it's a Series 3 as according to the DVLA website it was produced and first registered in 1981? I've attached a pile of pictures so any info you guys could give would be appreciated.

I don't know how much work it's going to take but I'll be sure to make a thread and track the project from start to finish when I begin! Also I should probably add, my friends dad is a mechanic so I've got someone that knows what he's on about when the forums or Haynes manuals are beyond me.

Cheers

Sean

Hi Bigeee, I'm based on the Isle of Skye which on one hand is great but sourcing parts, especially anything big is potentially going to be a pain.

In what way does it look modded Paskman?

Cheers

Sean

someones put an ugly defender front end on it........

I spent ages trawling through various pictures and websites trying to work out why I couldn't find any other 1981 Series 3 with that front end so that makes sense now!

That's good to know Chris, I'm certainly not aware of a big land rover scene up here so hopefully parts aren't in high demand.

Cheers

I don't know if these are of interest to anyone but for the sake of completeness I'll upload them anyway.

Thanks for the warm welcomes so far!

Cheers

Sean

got a series 3 front panel here if you want to make it look like one again, you'll just need to buy a bonnet

I would quite like to make it look authentic again admittedly, would it just be a case of bolting on the Series 3 front panel then finding a Series 3 bonnet or would I need to find any other donor parts?

Also how much would you want for it?

Cheers

Bolts straight on, from the looks of your conversion he's left the rad in its original place and extended the brackets back from the new slam panel.

From the pics it looks like it'd be fine, cant see anything missing or modified as early defenders have similar style bonnet hinges. You'd just want to get a deluxe or razor bonnet for it, personally I prefer the deluxe on series 3's and the razor on twos. Just sold a bonnet for a fiver :p

Pay postage and say £15 as it wants a little bit of repair ?

That sounds straight forward enough then, I'm currently in Hospital but when I get back home I'll have a prowl about and see if I can find any donor bonnets in my area and I'll get back to you!

Thanks gemsdad, I don't know how many hours I've spent going through the threads so far and I've only been a member for a few days!
