I've searched and searched through the forums but can't find an answer to the problem.
My disco has an intermittent starting problem, starts fine first time everytime, but then after a short trip, turn it off and she won't start again. After a few minutes (sometimes hours) she starts again without problem.
I've fitted a new starter motor, attempted to bypass the automatic inhibitor switch, but the same problem is there, tried wiggling the gear selector, but nothing concrete.
Struggled to find any wiring diagrams and even thought of putting a switch live direct to the starter motor solenoid but this is a last resort right????

I must be missing something simple right??

will the engine turn over?
Are the dash lights coming on?
Are there any noises (clicks, graunching, etc)?
Is the immobiliser light extinguishing?

Amplifier/coil cud be a pos. Had a Triumph years back that gave me similar symptoms. Would be fine and then refuse to start whenever it felt like. Was no rhyme or reason as to when it decided not to start.

I had a similar problem with a Rover 75. Bought in good faith and after about 50 miles and a few days later it died up the road from home. She started again some hours later. I took it out for a drive locally and she did the same again and the following day she started fine. Diagnosis was a fault in the coil pack. Major expence on the 75.

A mobile electrical technician confirmed to me when I asked if this problem could have been disguised (hidden) prior to purchase with his confident reply of 'oh yes'!

Good luck in sorting the problem!
