If you have read my thread about the XDI gearbox you wil note that I have been fretting about the revs at 70mph. so on gut and a bit of hearsay I went and bought a gearbox thinking it was a petrol gearbox on mine not a deisel, as mine had been replaced at some point in the past. Arrives on my door step and so I arrange for a local garage I trust to fit it. THey do a rev test first then fit the new box and rev test afterwards. its exactly the same and to add insult to injury the secondhand box breaksdown on teh test. So I have had to pay for the broken to be removed and my old box to be put back in. So £500 poorer I do more research, but this time go back to the one source I forgot to check, good old haynes, and there it is bold as brass in teh gearbox section gearbox ratios !!! and the petrol and the deisel pre TD4 ARE THE SAME !!!!! I was godamn fretting over somethign that didnt exist. I have also checked into comments about the IRD drive causing the issue of hihger revs with teh orignal ratios, but again this cant be true as good old haynes clearly shows in teh diagram that the IRD has no gearing what so ever to the front wheels. Infact the only thing remaining that could be effecting revs is tyre size.
So doh and I hope others learn from my listake and dont cost themselves so much money.
