To sierrafery for putting me on the right track to fixing my disco,turned out to be a wire that had slightly melted in the wiring harness that ran to the maf it had dropped behind the egr pipe at the front of the engine,once again thanks.

Welcome, i'm glad it's sorted, yes wiring issue with MAF are quite common but wanted you to rule out the simple things first
