Hi im getting a clunk on drive takeup and seeing as my a frame ball joint has a slot in it im guessing it can adjusted. I just took some skin off my knuckles trying to turn with a spanner in the slot. Is it locked in place or can it just be tightened as is? I am guessing its seized :(
My gaiter is split too should I just swap it out?
Cheers in advance

I had a clonk on take up on my 110 and it turned out to be the bushes on the bottom links on the rear suspension. I got a pair of second hand ones, changed the bushes, and then swapped them over. If you do change them do them at the same time - I did one and then the other one the next day - makes for a very interesting drive as it tries to skip to the left or right when accelerating and decelerating!

The 110 parts list doesn't show any washers, and I'm not aware of any adjustment, but if the gaiter's split it's probably best to change it, although it is supposed to be a right bar steward.

Good luck!

Yes ive read it can be a pain! I checked and its split the whole way round. I cant feel a locking tab on the joint adjuster but that was my thought, it may just be seized.
Arg its on my xmas to do list now to change the joint.

I have uprated springs to fit so may remove the boge which doesnt appear to work. I had thought that may be causing the clunk as it has two ball joints. Anyone had this make a noise or a clunk? Id rather keep it but it could be easier just to fit a regular fulcrum bracket?
Thanks

There is no adjustment on the A frame ball joint. However i have seen them were someone has fitted too thin a washer under the nut and it has been thread bound. Allowing the taper to work loose and rattle about. Remove split pin and nut, fit thicker washer and tighten up, usually cures it unless it is really bad.

Cheers Wammers, that sounds a trifle easier than replacing the joint for now. I think it has been replaced in the past as Jam1 one says, it looks to be an adjustable one. But I can't find locking tabs and its stuck firm so is non-adjustable now anyway! I'm not revelling in trying to remove it from the bracket so I may just take it to a garage to press it out and put the new one in. Will try the washer trick for the meantime though, thanks.

Never seen an adjustable one.

The adjustable ones are locked by a part of the surround being knocked into the slot to stop it moving thus;

Load of bollocks that is just how they are assembled. Calling them adjustable is a gimmick. Under that is a cup and a spring.

There is no spring in my a frame ball joint.

The boge unit has 2 which usually knock on suspension bound if faulty, on power take up it could be any number of bushes but if gaitor hasgon it needs doing........fun job.
I kept the self level unit as she felt more stable at speed with it

Cool I see how its locked in now. Will take another look but ordered a new one anyway. Im not sure about the boge will see what the ball joints look like and if it works
Thanks all
