A few problems

Recently I got my first defender and its been giving me a lot of grief. I want to learn to do all this myself so if you dont mind i need to aska few questions...

There is a grinding noise when the engine starts and stops driving, ie when putting the clutch in or out or speeding up or slowing down ect.

I cant find my VIN plate... where is it usually found?

not sure on the noise, but it would worry me slightly that knowing how often landys get nicked you didnt check VIN plate when you bought it.

Vin number should be on a plate ontop of the brake servo and also stamped on the front drivers side of the chassis by the tie down hoop .

Sounds like brake pads are gone if it only makes a noise when it moves , could even be the front mud sheilds rubbing the discs .
