A civilised green laning trip

Some of the best times I've had are when its been at its worse conditions wise, up to our knees in mud and water in Beasty's field after the chippie run sat round a fire til 4am or up to our knees in snow in Wales. I only made the mistake once of being cold at night now I have sleeping bag, duvet and hot water bottles and I can manage anything :)

I can see what you are saying, but it doesn't have to be expensive. Travel Lodge do rooms for £20 a night thats £10 each if there are two or £6.66 if three share. Campsites can be that much.

I'm not actually suggesting Travel Lodge, but most trips are not in the really busy season, so it might be affordable.

Just a thought from someone who has a bad back, feels the cold and hates sleeping on mud.

6.66 quid for a threesome with you and 110 women count me in;):lol:

That night at the pay and play site in wales!

Who's idea was it to go night laning in snow drifts again?

I did the tent thing when the Herts lot went to Derbyshire, hated it, loved the campfire, BBQ, banter etc, but the tent and campsite bit forget it.
Why not find a nice local pub with rooms, far nicer than camping.

Agree to a point , we've stayed in some fab pubs this year .....and one truly horrendous one ..and even that was £65 for the pleasure
I guess it depends on the lanes , if you're in the wilds of Wales and you've been driving for 5 or 6 hours , sometimes it's just easier to stop and throw up a tent ...b&b is great if they're where you are :)

I know Sally would be interested - she don't camp!

See its not just me.

Perhaps if there are other David would arrange one. Name the place and I will research accomodation :D Put my name down if you do :D:D

Suew get an air bed , we have a double that you just blow up using the fag lighter in the 90 , decent sleeping bag or duvet hottie bottle and a good slug of the malt , you won't even know the floors there!::D

LOL, I have all that stuff. I used to turn the horse trailer into quite a decent place to sleep. Carpet on the floor, beds, wardrobe, generator, TV, etc etc.

You still had to walk across a field in the middle of the night to go to the toilets or to get a shower, and try to cook on a camping stove or live off stuff from the burger vans.

I think my point here is turning a trip from a holiday to hard work

I did try this a few years ago and booked up the hotel, arranged food. various dishes for all appetites. Took over the whole hotel for a 7pm arrival.

Great idea.

Although we had a Discovery 3 in the group and it decided to bog down in a field which took us five hours to recover.

On arrival at the hotel at 10pm we downed copious amounts of beer, wine and spirits and the big pot of what was now curry stew with potatos and pasta was erm epic.

But the banter in the bar was brilliant until about 3am.

Fair play to the hotellier for staying up with us.

Sounds great :D:D

Just need to find the right place. With 100,000 members, doesn't anyone on LZ own a hotel :D:D

Oh it was a group discount rate of about £40 per night and £10 per head for food.

So all in it was about £60 per room and he made a fortune out of bar sales.

I have just been thinking how lovely it would be if someone (not me) was to organise a green laning trip which didn't involve sleeping on the ground.
Why not a nice B&B or hotel somewhere. Minimum requirements, bed, heating, breakfast, en suite, evening meal, TV, internet connection and a bar.
Absolutely banned are sleeping on the floor, washing cooking pans in grotty sinks in cold water, using manky shared showers and toilet blocks and freezing to death. Bunk barns aren't much better either.
Anyone else interested

I sometimes take a caravan .. which has all that!

Mind, I have a removable tow-bar .. ;)

Must admit to enjoying camping, though, always have done.
