History:-
Sunday Morning, My wife popped down to the local supermarket and bought the weekly shopping.

Sunday afternoon, I took our son to a party and dropped him off then came straight home.

Both Trips were about 5 miles each way.

Sunday afternoon, time to pick up son from party... Out to freelander .... Nothing.. Wouldnt turn over..

Checked the warning lights on the dash board.. Nothing..
Starter motor Refurbished a month ago.
Opened bonnet, left key in the ignition.. Could hear a ticking noise coming from what appears to be the fuel pump..

Is that the cause of the problem? Would this stop the engine from turning over..

Help and advice greatly appreciated.

Reub.

wont stop it turning over

Check fuses and also check the cranking live wire is still connected to the starter motor

If you know what you are doing get someone to crank engine with a test light connected to cranking wire

If its live your starter isnt

Not checked yet... But would i still hear the ticking noise thats coming from the fuel pump?

Thanks again.

Have you checked the battery ? and as was said earlier cranking wire on starter..little black box on top of starter motor..and is it a ticking or more of a buzz, buzz is fuel pump, kicks in as the ignition is turned to position 2,.
One last thing have you got any lights on the dash?
Had a similar problem with mine and it turned out to be the battery ..even though it was only a 12 month old..if it starts with a jump, its almost certain to be a fooked battery....

All fuses checked.. All ok.

Cranking wire checked, still attached to the starter motor..

Will do the light test tom when a mate comes round..

The battery is ok.. Tried jump starting it.. Nothing .. same as before..

will keep you posted if its the starter motor again.. Although i had the starter motor refurbished a month ago..

Thanks again for your thoughts,

Reub.

OK Guys.... Fault found....

Do not laugh ya bits off... :)

After taking the air filter etc off.. so i could see the starter motor properly..

With 12v bulb in hand.. ready to do the cranking test..

I noticed that the live wire had come of the solenoid... Grrrr..

3 days without a car due to a wire coming off.. lmao..
At least one thing.. cost of repair = cold hands :)

Thanks for all your techy info, much appreciated,

Reub.
