I recently manged to get reasonably low miles Freelander Di after a bit of looking, and it's been so far so good-ish. Having lived with it for abot 2 weeks, I was wondering if anyone could answer the following:

1. Did these ever come with any under-bonnet sound deadening material? While I don't mind the manly diesel engine sound my wife isn't convinced, so a slight volume drop would probably be in everyone's best interests...

2. Is it just me or are the heaters in these cars fairly abysmal? I know it's been cold lately but it takes a good 15 minutes of driving in the morning to get even lukewarm air circulating - is this fixable?

3. All the plastic bits of the exterior (bumpers, back roof etc) are quite faded - can anyone recommend a good product to restore this? Does such a product even exist?

4. Has anyone seen/used this?

TUNEAM  That's cheap! I wonder if it's a case of getting what you're paying for..?

Cheers

1, yes... fitted to the bonnet shoult be some commpressed card/material stuff.. old rover doozil is a tad noisey anyway. td4 lot quieter and has a plastic cover over engine.

2, heater should be very good. mine warms up quicker than that. may need bleeding through.

3, if they grey not a lot you can do... if they black just get normal bumper shine/restorer and keep on top of it. also do a search for trim or bumper care.

4, do a search on here for roveron.

hope this is help.

welcome to the mad house.
checkout the anything goes section before taking any offence:D

1. underbonnet soundproofing. my 53 td4 has a load of felt type stuff fixed to the underside of the bonnet, really makes a difference, sounds like a trip to the breakers might be in order.
2. as per andytd4auto. mines usually pumping out hot air in under 5 mins.
3. word is linseed oil, do a search on this forum........
4. again as andytd4auto says, roverron is your man, again do a search on this forum

1. Yes, a felt fabric lining.
2. 5-10 mins of driving ought to be enough. Later diesels had a ceramic hetaer or a FBH to spped it up.
3. Linseed oil on grey or black bumpers. Excellent and only needs doing annually/6 monthly.
4. Yep, lots of advise and no bull from Roverron.

Cheers

Tune am box,
i got the TU1 and it works a treat, i got the one with a longer lead so i could fit it in the glove box as it is easier to adjust it, but you do get tempted to tweek it.
fitting is ok running wiring through bulkhead was hardest you have to cut one wire, which is daunting but very easy (even you you remove it it can go back to standard)
Opening the wiring harness at the fuel pump was not that easy as i wanted to check every wires connection etc.
it makes a freelander which was sluggish in my mind, to a one which drives so much better. boost comes in much earlier i was very surprised how a cheap little box can make so much difference.

i have seen the fuel consumption go up since it was fitted, but thats probably my right foot accelerating more.

Rover Ron posted mine quickly.
i can recomend it.

cheers...Ken

Linseed is great for trim.
Roverron thing is good for bit more uumph.
Should have a felt liner in the bonnet and a plastic cover on the engine. I've put a lead lined blanket from Noisebuster on as well, this does make it quieter.
There is something on here i think about mods to the heater plumbing around the exhaust recirculation valve. I think you should blank the actuator pipe for the valve as well for a bit more uumph.

Hope this helps

Yeah that would be good - can't find them on google...

Thanks for all the input everyone.
