99 2.5 DSE Injector number 4

I've got a leaking fuel injector, which typically has to be the one with the needle lift sensor :rolleyes:

I've got a spare set of injectors, but they're out of a 98 beast, so injector number 4 has a different plug.

Question: is there any difference in pre WA and post WA injector no 4 other than the electrical connector (i.e. can I hack the plug off my leaky 99 and solder it on to my hopefully unleaky 98)?

It's a different injector. 94-98 pre EGR STC 2290. 98-02 post EGR STC 4218.
 
Arse. Had it booked in for an MOT in the morning, should maybe have left myself a little more time to prepare!

Next question... spare injectors for the 98-02 model seem to be like rocking horse **** these days. Any idea where I can get my hands on one?

Island 4x4 £150.00 including vat post free. Or Famous Four £222.00 including vat. Or Rimmer Bros £312.31 including vat. And a £50.00 surcharge until old unit returned. But out of stock. Take your pick.
 
Much obliged, either I'm going a bit dopey in my old age, or they were out of stock everywhere a couple of weeks ago when I checked (or perhaps a bit of both!)

I suppose it is actually leaking from the plastic bit with the wire in it. And not just from spill pipe.
 
Yeah, give the lump a good steam clean to give me a chance of finding the leak before MOT time, took all the injectors out, cleaned all the holes and threads up, re-fitted with anti-seize, replaced the spill-off pipes...

Took it for a run for a couple of miles and the lump is spotless apart from around injector 4, which is swimming in diesel.... just enough to start a little trickle after a few minutes which will be enough to be spotted when it's up on the ramp.

Will take it down to the garage tomorrow anyway, I'm not too bothered about it failing MOT, as I was only trying to get it done before the tax runs out - I'll be parking it up in the garage for a while until either it snows, or I need to move something bulky, so have plenty of time to tinker over the next few weekends if I can't find a quick fix tomorrow.

I had actually been looking to replace the full set of injectors whether or not it passed tomorrow, as done not bad to get 140,000 miles out of this lot. I see they're in stock at Island 4x4, so might go down that route.

Stick some rag under manifold to soak it up may just get it through. You can get injectors refurbed at Diesel Bob tuning for around £28.00 each +vat, but #4 electrics must be good must be good he does not replace those.
 
Not a bad result from the MOT actually.... failed on the leaking injector which I knew about, and windscreen washers are only working on headlights and not windscreen - although I forgot to check fluid level before I went!

Ordered full set of new injectors from Island 4x4, which I had planned on doing anyway at some point this year - don't see the point in having refurbs done for £28 when the other 5 are only £60 new.

All going well, this time next week I should be sailing through a re-test with a new lease of life in the old girl :)
