96 300tdi auto engine braking on steep decent?

not really measured my mpg but since i cleaned out the intercooler and slapped on some nice blue silicone hoses,egr removed and de catted the exhaust ive noticed a hell of a difference ,done a round trip of about 100 mile to abingdon at the weekend and a few goes round the off road,(white knuckle on the descents,) started at smack on 3/4 tank got home with it still aboth the 1/2 way,before i did all this at 2000 revs i struggled doin 50 now at 2000 revs im doin 60 and at 50 im down to about 1750,she also feels so much smoother passing thro the gears just dead annoying down hill,and she finally completed her first mud run without having a helping tow rope :5bhurray:

I hate the way the auto box decends, although i'm getting used to it. It does stop accellerating eventually!

It's isn't fitted to all 300TDI Autos...mine hasn't got it

ok richard if yours doesnt have edc how is your engine braking down a steep descent????

Can reverse not be selected in autos to control decent speeds? I got told
this and I was a little sceptical!!

well thats a new one big andy?? not heard that really cant see it working neither dont think id like to find out any of you wanna be a guinea pig and let us know the results?

Might have my eye on a v8i auto for breaking so will let u know!

suppose it's only like rolling back on a hill start in first, but obviosly in reverse!!

I've seen it done down a short slope, but not tried it myself

Not as good as it would be with a manual
