'95 - autobox issues - no/intermitent engagement

i cant see from here but if oil is burnt it can only be from a clutch pack ,friction material is paper thin they dont wear they fail,theres nothing else in there that can burn or create high enough temperatures,you cant see clutch packs unless you remove valve block ,any debris in sump means it needs some work ,often it can be just clutchg A which is simple job but can be much worse too
 
Ok. im scared.

Anysort of how-tos or guides around or can you do one for me. What im really wondering is what tools, what parts, what do i need (oil etc) and what do i need to make sure i dont do. I.e. i want everything i need before I start so i can keep it rolling and not stranded.
 
if you find evidence in sump i can talk you through the other stuff ,wnen there is a clutch issue most times its relative cheap fix but you can never know till get front off box
 
no .but if your not confident to check it take it somewhere that can ,drop sump and report what you find .you should expect sump to be quite clean
 
Im a marine engineer at trade so pretty handy but as soon as its my own toys i panic haha.

If i have clear instructions and know what im looking for id happily tackle anything and im looking forward to tackleing everything at some point. Only ordered the filter etc on sunday so wont be here till wendsday earliest :(
