Does anyone have advice on how to soften up the suspension of my standard 90 TD5? It's bone-jarringly hard at present. I tried Koni adjustables (on softest setting) on my last identical motor and they made no difference. All after-market options seem to offer 'heavy duty' or 'stiffer for fast road use', etc. etc. All I want is some comfort..!

Thanks, Gareth, you're a pal... Just what I need.. Another for the wife, please, paisley pattern would do nicely..

I'll check them out Jonathon, thanks..

Does anyone know the web address for a chart of LR spring rates, I used to have it but it disappeared during a PC meltdown. Ta..

Doh, why is dat girl trying to get an axle stand under dat motor...??

Oh, and thanks for the info, a full set of RR springs are going on - and gas front shocks. Springs dirt cheap from Paddocks, £9 each! Comfy tidings to be related later.. I hope..

I fitted the RR springs (Paddocks, £9 each, green colour code) and have to say they are an improvement. The 90 doesn't jump in the air or sideways if I hit a good bump, the wheel is now more inclined to ride over it, as I believe the suspension is supposed to allow it to do, not be so rigid that the whole vehicle goes up and over it!! Very pleased, would have liked it even softer, though. Ride height seems exactly the same. Can't say the De Carbon gas shocks are any great shakes over the standard ones, though.. Steering also seems better and the wife is happier.. (joy...)
I discovered that the easiest way to change the rear springs is to support the chassis on axle stands and to remove both wheels & top shocker mounts and with a trolley jack under the axle, lower it right down. Didn't need the spring compressors, but I did for the front.. As usual, I found it impossible to remove both front shockers without butchering at least one.. How you're supposed to remove a rusted-on top 19mm Nylock nut holiding the centre spindle 'flat' with an open-ended 8mm spanner, I dunno. The bottom nut was easier to remove as I used a Stillson on the shocker body.. Anyone want a set of standard springs cheap, done 30k? Boingggg...
